ལྷ་མེད་སྨྲ་བ་པོ།

གཞན་གྱི་སྨྲ་བ་ཚར་གཅོད་ནུས་པར་གྱུར་ཏོ། །
he could illuminate his own assertions and vanquish those of others.

འགྲོ་བར་ལྷ་མིན་མི་དང་ལྷས་མཆོད་པ། །སྐྱེ་དང་རྒ་དང་ན་འཆི་བྲལ་བ་པོ
“honored in the world by demi-gods, gods, and men; free from birth, aging, illness, and death;

གཞན་གྱི་སྨྲ་བ་ཚར་གཅོད་པར་བྱེད་ནུས་པར་གྱུར་ཏོ། །
and vanquish those of others.

གཞན་གྱི་སྨྲ་བ་ཚར་གཅོད་པར་རྔོ་ཐོག་པ་ཞིག་མཆིས་ཏེ།
with blazing intelligence, this capable man illuminates his own assertions and smashes those of others.

བསམས་བཞིན་དུ་མིའི་ཆོས་བླ་མ་སྨྲ་བ་ལྟ་སྨོས་ཀྱང་ཅི་དགོས།
what need is there to mention intentionally claiming to possess superhuman qualities?

བརྫུན་དུ་སྨྲ་བ་ནི་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱིས་རྣམ་གྲངས་དུ་མས་སྨད་དོ། །
the blessed one criticised lying in many ways

སྙན་པར་སྨྲ་བ། སྨྲ་བའི་ཁྱུ་མཆོག་དེ་ལྟ་བུ་དག་མཆིས་སོ་ཞེས་མཆིའོ།
so eloquently do they speak, so wise are they.”

ཁྱེད་ནི་སྨྲ་བ་མང་བ་ཡིན་ནོ། །དེ་ལྟ་མོད་ཀྱི་དམ་ཚིག་གིས་བརྙ་བར་བྱ་སྟེ།
you tend to preach a lot. you must therefore swear an oath:

བུ་དག་ཅི་ཁོ་བོ་ན་རེ་སའི་སྟེང་ན་ཁོ་བོ་གཅིག་པུ་ཁོ་ན་སྨྲ་བ་ཡིན་གྱི།
“my sons, do i say i am the one and only philosopher on this earth,

དེ་བཱ་རཱ་ཎ་སཱི་ན་དྲང་སྲོང་སྨྲ་བ་རི་དགས་ཀྱི་ནགས་ན་ཉེ་བར་རྟེན་ཅིང་བཞུགས་སོ།
who lived and dwelt in the Ṛṣipatana deer park near vārāṇasī.

དེ་དག་ཕན་ཚུན་སྨྲ་བ་ན་བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱང་ཕྱོགས་དེར་གཤེགས་ནས། བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱིས་བཀའ་སྩལ་པ།
while they were conferring, the blessed one passed by and inquired,

བཅོམ་ལྡན་འདས་ཀྱིས་བཀའ་སྩལ་པ། དགེ་སློང་དག་དགེ་སློང་ཆོས་སྨྲ་བ་དེ་ནི་སྤྲུལ་པ་གང་ཡིན་པ་དེ་ཉིད་ཡིན་ཏེ།
he blessed one replied, “that monk preacher was a shape-shifter and yet this was so:

དེ་དགེ་སློང་གི་འཁོར་ཉི་ཁྲི་དང་བཱ་རཱ་ཎ་སཱི་ན་དྲང་སྲོང་སྨྲ་བ་རི་དགས་ཀྱི་ནགས་ན་ཉེ་བར་རྟེན་ཅིང་བཞུགས་སོ། །
“with his following of twenty thousand monks, he lived and stayed in the deer park of Ṛṣipatana near vārāṇasī.

དེ་བཱ་རཱ་ཎ་སཱི་ན་དྲང་སྲོང་སྨྲ་བ་རི་དགས་ཀྱི་ནགས་ན་ཉེ་བར་རྟེན་ཅིང་བཞུགས་པ་ན་དེ་དག་དེའི་ཉན་ཐོས་སུ་གྱུར་ཏོ། །
those beings you saw were his disciples when he lived and dwelt in the Ṛṣipatana deer park near vārāṇasī.

གཞན་ཡང་འདི་ལ་ལ་ལ་བདག་ནི་ཐམས་ཅད་མི་བཟོད་དོ་ཞེས་དེ་ལྟར་ལྟ་ཞིང་དེ་སྐད་སྨྲ་བ་དང་།
others hold the view and argue that no self endures,

གཏམ་འདྲེས་པ་དང་། ཕེབས་པར་སྨྲ་བ་དང་། སྨོས་འདྲིན་དང་། འགྲོགས་བཤེས་རྣམས་ཀྱང་རྒྱ་ཆེར་སྟོན་པར་འགྱུར་རོ། །
while the rest will be revealed at length if you converse with, chat with, and question

གལ་ཏེ་བདག་ཐམས་ཅད་བཟོད་དོ་ཞེས་དེ་ལྟར་ལྟ་ཞིང་དེ་སྐད་སྨྲ་ན་བདག་ནི་ཐམས་ཅད་མི་བཟོད་དོ་ཞེས་དེ་ལྟར་ལྟ་ཞིང་དེ་སྐད་སྨྲ་བ་གང་ཡིན་པ་དང་།
if one holds the view and argues that all selves endure, then the view and argument that no self endures

བདག་ཁ་ཅིག་བཟོད་ལ་ཁ་ཅིག་མི་བཟོད་དོ་ཞེས་དེ་ལྟར་ལྟ་ཞིང་དེ་སྐད་སྨྲ་ན་བདག་ནི་ཐམས་ཅད་བཟོད་དོ་ཞེས་དེ་ལྟར་ལྟ་ཞིང་དེ་སྐད་སྨྲ་བ་གང་ཡིན་པ་དང་།
if one holds the view and argues that some selves endure while other selves do not endure,

བརྫུན་དུ་སྨྲ་བ་དང་། འབྲུའི་ཆང་དང་བཅོས་པའི་ཆང་མྱོས་པར་འགྱུར་བ་བག་མེད་པའི་གནས་སྤངས་ཏེ། འབྲུའི་ཆང་དང་བཅོས་པའི་ཆང་མྱོས་པར་འགྱུར་བ་བག་མེད་པའི་གནས་ལས་སླར་ལོག་པ་དེ་བཞིན་དུ།
lying, and intoxicating substances like grain alcohol and its by-products, which leave one uninhibited.
