los hallazgos más antiguos en el estado de coahuila datan al fin del pleistoceno y consisten en puntas de giavellotto encontradas en la cueva espantosa y a la chuparrosa. pero al inicio del holoceno que se desarrollan las tradiciones culturales más importantes de la zona, referentes a la llamada tradición del desierto, y en gran parte identificadas justo en la cuenca de cuatro ciénegas.
