by your life! in their drunkenness they were truly blind.

by your life! they were blindly wandering on in their intoxication.

have you not regarded how your lord dealt with the army of the elephants?
ma ogtahay sida eeba ku falay asaxaabtii maroodiga «colkii».

have you not considered how your lord dealt with the possessors of the elephant?
ma ogtahay sida eeba ku falay asaxaabtii maroodiga «colkii».

(muhammad), consider how your lord dealt with the tribe of ad,
ma ku soo gaadhay sida eebahaa ku falay caad.

have you not regarded how your lord dealt with [the people of] ‘ad,
ma ku soo gaadhay sida eebahaa ku falay caad.

and worship your lord until the last moment (of your life) that will most certainly come.
caabudna eebahaa intay yaqiintu kaaga timaaddo (geeridu).

by your life, (o prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication.
cimrigaagee iyagu baadibay ku wareersan yihiin.

eat [your fill] and enjoy your life for a little while, o you who are lost in sin.
(gaalada waxaa lagu dhihi) cuna oo raaxaysta wax yar, waxaad tihiin dambiilayaale;

by your life, [o muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
cimrigaagee iyagu baadibay ku wareersan yihiin.

have you not considered, [o muhammad], how your lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?
ma ogtahay sida eeba ku falay asaxaabtii maroodiga «colkii».

have you not seen how your lord lengthens out the shadow? he could have kept it motionless if he liked. yet we make the sun its pilot to show the way.
miyeydaan ogayn sida eebe u fidiyo hadhka, hadduu doonana wuxuu ka yeeli lahaa mid xasillan (taagan) markaasaan ugu yeellay qorraxda korkiisa daliil (xujo).

do you not see how your lord extends the shadow? had he willed, he could have made it still. and we made the sun a pointer to it.
miyeydaan ogayn sida eebe u fidiyo hadhka, hadduu doonana wuxuu ka yeeli lahaa mid xasillan (taagan) markaasaan ugu yeellay qorraxda korkiisa daliil (xujo).

and surely, we gave you authority on the earth and appointed for you therein provisions (for your life). little thanks do you give.
waxaan idin makaninay dhulka waxaan idiinka yeellay meel lagu noolaado, waxaase yar intaad shukriyeysaan.

by your life o dear prophet (mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication.
