we leave the spacious plaza of the ruedo alameda to our left. and make our way up the street (or calle) torrejones, which passes the ‘torre del predicatorio’ [preacher’s tower] at its highest point. this is where people once gathered to hear the sermons of the beatified friar diego josé de cadiz, whose remains are now to be found in an urn at the foot of the statue of the virgin de la paz, patroness of ronda, in the sanctuary de la paz.. the remains of the tower that one can see here nowadays once formed part of the roman aqueduct that brought water from the spring of la arena to arunda (as ronda was then known). it is worth stopping to take a closer look at the remains of the water channels and to admire the magnificent view of ronda that one gets from this spot.
dejamos a un lado la espaciosa plaza del ruedo alameda –en el centro se alza la estatua de san francisco, patrón de este barrio, rodeado de unos vetustos y viejos quejigos– y enfilamos la calle torrejones, que pasa en su parte más alta junto al predicatorio –en este pequeño promontorio solía predicar al pueblo fray diego josé de cádiz, un beato cuyos restos reposan en una hornacina que se halla en el santuario de la paz, a los pies de la virgen de la paz, la patrona de ronda–, en realidad se trata de una torre, vestigio del acueducto romano que transportaba el agua a la ciudad de arunda (ronda) desde la cercana fuente de la arena. merece la pena asomarse para ver los restos de la canalización y admirar desde el mirador una de la mejores panorámicas de ronda.
