and as they departed, jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning john, what went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken with the wind?
ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܐܙܠܘ ܫܪܝ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܥܠ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܢܐ ܢܦܩܬܘܢ ܠܚܘܪܒܐ ܠܡܚܙܐ ܩܢܝܐ ܕܡܢ ܪܘܚܐ ܡܬܬܙܝܥ

as it is written in the book of the words of esaias the prophet, saying, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the lord, make his paths straight.

and when the messengers of john were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning john, what went ye out into the wilderness for to see? a reed shaken with the wind?

what man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
ܡܢܘ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܡܐܐ ܥܪܒܝܢ ܘܐܢ ܢܐܒܕ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܬܫܥܝܢ ܘܬܫܥܐ ܒܕܒܪܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܒܥܐ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܒܕ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܢܫܟܚܝܘܗܝ

(for he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. for oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
