what are they waiting for – except the last day , that it may suddenly come upon them while they are unaware ?
ሰዓቲቱን እነርሱ የማያውቁ ኾነው በድንገት ልትመጣባቸው እንጅ ይጠባበቃሉን ?

as for such , it may be that allah will pardon them . allah is ever clement , forgiving .
እነዚያም አላህ ከእነርሱ ይቅርታ ሊያደርግ ይሻል ፡ ፡ አላህም ይቅር ባይ መሓሪ ነው ፡ ፡

it may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were muslims .
እነዚያ የካዱት ( በትንሣኤ ቀን ) ሙስሊሞች በኾኑ ኖሩ በብዛት ይመኛሉ ፡ ፡

so these , it may be , allah will pardon them , and allah is pardoning , forgiving .
እነዚያም አላህ ከእነርሱ ይቅርታ ሊያደርግ ይሻል ፡ ፡ አላህም ይቅር ባይ መሓሪ ነው ፡ ፡

and i know not , perhaps it may be a trial for you , and an enjoyment for a while .
እርሱም ( ቅጣትን ማቆየት ) ምናልባት ለእናንተ ፈተናና እስከ ጊዜው መጠቃቀሚያ እንደሆነም አላውቅም ፤ ( በላቸው ) ፡ ፡

and know not ; haply it may be a trial for you , and an enjoyment for a season .
እርሱም ( ቅጣትን ማቆየት ) ምናልባት ለእናንተ ፈተናና እስከ ጊዜው መጠቃቀሚያ እንደሆነም አላውቅም ፤ ( በላቸው ) ፡ ፡

it may be that thou tormentest thyself ( o muhammad ) because they believe not .
አማኞች ባለመኾናቸው ፤ ( በቁጭት ) ነፍስህን ገዳይ መኾን ይፈራልሃል ፡ ፡

it may be that our lord will give us better than it in exchange . to our lord we humbly turn '
« ጌታችን ከእርሷ የተሻለን ( አትክልት ) ሊለውጠን ይከጀላል ፡ ፡ እኛ ወደ ጌታችን ከጃዮች ነን ፤ » ( አሉ ) ፡ ፡

and as for the night , keep vigil a part of it , as a work of supererogation for thee ; it may be that thy lord will raise thee up to a laudable station .
ከሌሊትም ላንተ ተጨማሪ የኾነችን ሶላት በእርሱ ( በቁርኣን ) ስገድ ፡ ፡ ጌታህ ምስጉን በኾነ ስፍራ በእርግጥ ያቆምሃል ፡ ፡

fighting is ordained for you , even though you dislike it . but it may be that you dislike something while it is good for you , and it may be that you like something while it is bad for you .
መጋደል እርሱ ለእናንተ የተጠላ ሲሆን በእናንተ ላይ ተጻፈ ፡ ፡ አንዳች ነገርን እርሱ ለናንተ የበለጠ ሲሆን የምትጠሉት መኾናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አንዳችንም ነገር እርሱ ለናንተ መጥፎ ሲሆን የምትወዱት መሆናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አላህም ( የሚሻላችሁን ) ያውቃል ግን እናንተ አታውቁም ፡ ፡

allah promised you many acquisitions which you will take , then he hastened on this one for you and held back the hands of men from you , and that it may be a sign for the believers and that he may guide you on a right path .
አላህ ብዙዎችን ዘረፋዎች የምትወስዷቸው የኾኑን ተስፋ አደረገላችሁ ፡ ፡ ይህችንም ለእናንተ አስቸኮለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ከእናንተም የሰዎችን እጆች ከለከለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ( ልታመሰግኑትና ) ለምእምናንም ምልክት እንድትኾን ቀጥተኛውን መንገድ ይመራችሁም ዘንድ ( ይህንን ሠራላችሁ ) ፡ ፡

but there are others who admit their sins of mixing good deeds with evil . it may be that god will accept their repentance , for god is forgiving and kind .
ሌሎችም በኃጢአቶቻቸው የተናዘዙ መልካም ሥራንና ሌላን መጥፎ ሥራ የቀላቀሉ አልሉ ፡ ፡ አላህ ከእነሱ ጸጸታቸውን ሊቀበል ይከጀላል ፡ ፡ አላህ መሓሪ አዛኝ ነውና ፡ ፡

and when he turned his face towards midian , he said : ' it may be that my lord will guide me on the right way '
ወደ መድየን አቅጣጫ ፊቱን ባዞረ ጊዜም « ጌታዬ ቀጥተኛውን መንገድ ሊመራኝ እከጅላለሁ » አለ ፡ ፡

allah has promised you abundant spoils , which you will capture . he has expedited this one for you , and withheld men ’ s hands from you , so that it may be a sign for the faithful , and that he may guide you to a straight path .
አላህ ብዙዎችን ዘረፋዎች የምትወስዷቸው የኾኑን ተስፋ አደረገላችሁ ፡ ፡ ይህችንም ለእናንተ አስቸኮለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ከእናንተም የሰዎችን እጆች ከለከለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ( ልታመሰግኑትና ) ለምእምናንም ምልክት እንድትኾን ቀጥተኛውን መንገድ ይመራችሁም ዘንድ ( ይህንን ሠራላችሁ ) ፡ ፡

enjoined on you is fighting , and this you abhor . you may dislike a thing yet it may be good for you ; or a thing may haply please you but may be bad for you .
መጋደል እርሱ ለእናንተ የተጠላ ሲሆን በእናንተ ላይ ተጻፈ ፡ ፡ አንዳች ነገርን እርሱ ለናንተ የበለጠ ሲሆን የምትጠሉት መኾናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አንዳችንም ነገር እርሱ ለናንተ መጥፎ ሲሆን የምትወዱት መሆናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አላህም ( የሚሻላችሁን ) ያውቃል ግን እናንተ አታውቁም ፡ ፡

allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture , and hath given you this in advance , and hath withheld men 's hands from you , that it may be a token for the believers , and that he may guide you on a right path .
አላህ ብዙዎችን ዘረፋዎች የምትወስዷቸው የኾኑን ተስፋ አደረገላችሁ ፡ ፡ ይህችንም ለእናንተ አስቸኮለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ከእናንተም የሰዎችን እጆች ከለከለላችሁ ፡ ፡ ( ልታመሰግኑትና ) ለምእምናንም ምልክት እንድትኾን ቀጥተኛውን መንገድ ይመራችሁም ዘንድ ( ይህንን ሠራላችሁ ) ፡ ፡

fighting [ in defence ] is ordained for you , abhorrent as it may be to you . you may dislike something although it is good for you , or like something although it is bad for you : god knows but you do not .
መጋደል እርሱ ለእናንተ የተጠላ ሲሆን በእናንተ ላይ ተጻፈ ፡ ፡ አንዳች ነገርን እርሱ ለናንተ የበለጠ ሲሆን የምትጠሉት መኾናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አንዳችንም ነገር እርሱ ለናንተ መጥፎ ሲሆን የምትወዱት መሆናችሁ ተረጋገጠ ፡ ፡ አላህም ( የሚሻላችሁን ) ያውቃል ግን እናንተ አታውቁም ፡ ፡

" it may be that my lord will give me something better than your garden , and will send on it husban ( torment , bolt , etc . ) from the sky , then it will be a slippery earth .
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

" i know not but that it may be a trial for you , and a grant of ( worldly ) livelihood ( to you ) for a time . "
እርሱም ( ቅጣትን ማቆየት ) ምናልባት ለእናንተ ፈተናና እስከ ጊዜው መጠቃቀሚያ እንደሆነም አላውቅም ፤ ( በላቸው ) ፡ ፡

and other have confessed their sins ; they have mixed a righteous deed with another evil . it may be that god will turn towards them ; god is all-forgiving , all-compassionate .
ሌሎችም በኃጢአቶቻቸው የተናዘዙ መልካም ሥራንና ሌላን መጥፎ ሥራ የቀላቀሉ አልሉ ፡ ፡ አላህ ከእነሱ ጸጸታቸውን ሊቀበል ይከጀላል ፡ ፡ አላህ መሓሪ አዛኝ ነውና ፡ ፡
