যে আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র বাণীসমূহ তার কাছে পঠিত হতে শোনে , তারপর সে অহংকারের মধ ্ যে অটল থাকে যেন সে সে-সব শোনেই নি । সেজন ্ য তাকে সুসংবাদ দাও মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির ।

nor can good and evil be equal . repel thou evil with that which is goodly then behold he between whom and thee there was enmity , will be as though he was a warm friend .
আর ভাল জিনিস ও মন ্ দ জিনিস একসমান হতে পারে না । প ্ রতিহত করো তাই দিয়ে যা অধিকতর উৎকৃষ ্ ট , ফলে দেখো ! তোমার মধ ্ যে ও তার মধ ্ যে শত ্ রুতা থাকলেও সে যেন ছিল অন ্ তরঙ ্ গ বন ্ ধু ।

when our verses are recited to such a person , he arrogantly turns away , as though he had not heard them , or as though there was a deafness in his ears . so announce to him the tidings of a grievous chastisement .
আর তার কাছে যখন আমাদের নির ্ দেশাবলী পাঠ করা হয় তখন সে গর ্ বভরে ফিরে যায় যেন সে এসব শুনতে পায় নি , যেন তার কান দুটোয় ভারী বস ্ তু রয়েছে । অতএব তাকে মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির খোশখবর দাও ।

and when our verses are recited to him , he turns away in pride , as though he did not hear them , as though there is deafness in his ears . so inform him of a painful punishment .
আর তার কাছে যখন আমাদের নির ্ দেশাবলী পাঠ করা হয় তখন সে গর ্ বভরে ফিরে যায় যেন সে এসব শুনতে পায় নি , যেন তার কান দুটোয় ভারী বস ্ তু রয়েছে । অতএব তাকে মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির খোশখবর দাও ।

and when our signs are recited to such a man he turns away , waxing proud , as though he heard them not , and in his ears were heaviness ; so give him good tidings of a painful chastisement .
আর তার কাছে যখন আমাদের নির ্ দেশাবলী পাঠ করা হয় তখন সে গর ্ বভরে ফিরে যায় যেন সে এসব শুনতে পায় নি , যেন তার কান দুটোয় ভারী বস ্ তু রয়েছে । অতএব তাকে মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির খোশখবর দাও ।

god will open the hearts of whomever he wants to guide to islam , but he will tighten the chest of one whom he has led astray , as though he was climbing high up into the sky . thus , god places wickedness on those who do not accept the faith .
অতঃপর আল ্ লাহ যাকে পথ-প ্ রদর ্ শন করতে চান , তার বক ্ ষকে ইসলামের জন ্ যে উম ্ মুক ্ ত করে দেন এবং যাকে বিপথগামী করতে চান , তার বক ্ ষকে সংকীর ্ ণ অত ্ যধিক সংকীর ্ ণ করে দেন-যেন সে সবেগে আকাশে আরোহণ করছে । এমনি ভাবে যারা বিশ ্ বাস স ্ থাপন করে না । আল ্ লাহ তাদের উপর আযাব বর ্ ষন করেন ।

and when our revelations are recited unto him he turneth away in his stiff-neckedness as though he heard them not : as though there was a deafness in his ears . so announce thou unto him a torment afflictive .
আর তার কাছে যখন আমাদের নির ্ দেশাবলী পাঠ করা হয় তখন সে গর ্ বভরে ফিরে যায় যেন সে এসব শুনতে পায় নি , যেন তার কান দুটোয় ভারী বস ্ তু রয়েছে । অতএব তাকে মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির খোশখবর দাও ।

who heareth the revelations of allah rehearsed unto him , and yet persisteth with stiff-neckedness as though he heard them not . announce thou unto him , then , a torment afflictive .
যে আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র বাণীসমূহ তার কাছে পঠিত হতে শোনে , তারপর সে অহংকারের মধ ্ যে অটল থাকে যেন সে সে-সব শোনেই নি । সেজন ্ য তাকে সুসংবাদ দাও মর ্ মন ্ তুদ শাস ্ তির ।

and when harm toucheth man , he calleth us on his side , or sitting or standing ; then when we have removed his harm from him , he passeth on as though he had never called us to a harm that touched him . in this wise is made fairseeming unto the extravagant that which they have been working .
আর যখন কোনো দুঃখ-দুর ্ দশা মানুষকে স ্ পর ্ শ করে সে তখন আমাদের ডাকে কাত হয়ে শায়িত অবস ্ থায় অথবা বসা অবস ্ থায় অথবা দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে , কিন ্ তু যখন আমরা তার থেকে তার বিপদ দূর করে দিই , সে তখন ঘুরে বেড়ায় যেন সে আমাদের কদাচ ডাকে নি বিপদের সময়ে যা তাকে স ্ পর ্ শ করেছিল । এইভাবে দায়িত ্ বহীনদের কাছে চিত ্ তাকর ্ ষক করা হয় যা তারা করে চলে ।

the good deed and the evil deed are not alike . repel the evil deed with one which is better , then lo ! he , between whom and thee there was enmity ( will become ) as though he was a bosom friend .
আর ভাল জিনিস ও মন ্ দ জিনিস একসমান হতে পারে না । প ্ রতিহত করো তাই দিয়ে যা অধিকতর উৎকৃষ ্ ট , ফলে দেখো ! তোমার মধ ্ যে ও তার মধ ্ যে শত ্ রুতা থাকলেও সে যেন ছিল অন ্ তরঙ ্ গ বন ্ ধু ।

inclining [ only ] to allah , not associating [ anything ] with him . and he who associates with allah - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place .
আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র প ্ রতি একনিষ ্ ঠ হয়ে , তাঁর সঙ ্ গে কোনো অংশী আরোপ না ক ’ রে । আর যে কেউ আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র সঙ ্ গে অংশী দাঁড় করায় সে যেন তাহলে আকাশ থেকে পড়ল , তখন পাখিরা তাকে ছোঁ মেরে নিয়ে যায় , অথবা বায়ুপ ্ রবাহ তাকে উড়িয়ে নিয়ে যায় এক দূরবর ্ তী স ্ থানে ।

and ( such is man that ) when an affliction befalls him , he cries out to us , reclining and sitting and standing . but no sooner than we have removed his affliction , he passes on as though he had never cried out to us to remove his affliction .
আর যখন কোনো দুঃখ-দুর ্ দশা মানুষকে স ্ পর ্ শ করে সে তখন আমাদের ডাকে কাত হয়ে শায়িত অবস ্ থায় অথবা বসা অবস ্ থায় অথবা দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে , কিন ্ তু যখন আমরা তার থেকে তার বিপদ দূর করে দিই , সে তখন ঘুরে বেড়ায় যেন সে আমাদের কদাচ ডাকে নি বিপদের সময়ে যা তাকে স ্ পর ্ শ করেছিল । এইভাবে দায়িত ্ বহীনদের কাছে চিত ্ তাকর ্ ষক করা হয় যা তারা করে চলে ।

and when affliction touches a man , he calls on us , whether lying on his side or sitting or standing ; but when we remove his affliction from him , he passes on as though he had never called on us on account of an affliction that touched him ; thus that which they do is made fair-seeming to the extravagant .
আর যখন কোনো দুঃখ-দুর ্ দশা মানুষকে স ্ পর ্ শ করে সে তখন আমাদের ডাকে কাত হয়ে শায়িত অবস ্ থায় অথবা বসা অবস ্ থায় অথবা দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে , কিন ্ তু যখন আমরা তার থেকে তার বিপদ দূর করে দিই , সে তখন ঘুরে বেড়ায় যেন সে আমাদের কদাচ ডাকে নি বিপদের সময়ে যা তাকে স ্ পর ্ শ করেছিল । এইভাবে দায়িত ্ বহীনদের কাছে চিত ্ তাকর ্ ষক করা হয় যা তারা করে চলে ।

become exclusively devoted to allah , ascribing divinity to none other than him . whoso ascribes divinity to aught beside allah , it is as though he fell down from the sky whereafter either the birds will snatch him away , or the wind will sweep him to a distant place ( causing him to be shattered to pieces ) .
আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র প ্ রতি একনিষ ্ ঠ হয়ে , তাঁর সঙ ্ গে কোনো অংশী আরোপ না ক ’ রে । আর যে কেউ আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র সঙ ্ গে অংশী দাঁড় করায় সে যেন তাহলে আকাশ থেকে পড়ল , তখন পাখিরা তাকে ছোঁ মেরে নিয়ে যায় , অথবা বায়ুপ ্ রবাহ তাকে উড়িয়ে নিয়ে যায় এক দূরবর ্ তী স ্ থানে ।

and if misfortune touch a man he crieth unto us , ( while reclining ) on his side , or sitting or standing , but when we have relieved him of the misfortune he goeth his way as though he had not cried unto us because of a misfortune that afflicted him . thus is what they do made ( seeming ) fair unto the prodigal .
আর যখন কোনো দুঃখ-দুর ্ দশা মানুষকে স ্ পর ্ শ করে সে তখন আমাদের ডাকে কাত হয়ে শায়িত অবস ্ থায় অথবা বসা অবস ্ থায় অথবা দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে , কিন ্ তু যখন আমরা তার থেকে তার বিপদ দূর করে দিই , সে তখন ঘুরে বেড়ায় যেন সে আমাদের কদাচ ডাকে নি বিপদের সময়ে যা তাকে স ্ পর ্ শ করেছিল । এইভাবে দায়িত ্ বহীনদের কাছে চিত ্ তাকর ্ ষক করা হয় যা তারা করে চলে ।

it once occurred to a certain king, that if he always knew the right time to begin everything; if he knew who were the right people to listen to, and whom to avoid; and, above all, if he always knew what was the most important thing to do, he would never fail in anything he might undertake. and this thought having occurred to him, he had it proclaimed throughout his kingdom that he would give a great reward to anyone who would teach him what was the right time for every action, and who were the most necessary people, and how he might know what was the most important thing to do.
