hill stations are like my second home. i love going there in the peak season when nature is the most alluring. this year my mind was bound to palampur, small and pretty. one of the worst things i hate during travels is the late train and yes, worst happens the most. i was to reach palampur by 4 in the evening, take a cab and reach my destination by 7 but no… my life is not so simple…… i reached the station at 8.30pm. yup, i know am a fearless man, but driving through the hills at night did not give much of an interest to me and so i decided to spend the night at a nearby hotel. as expected, all the hotels were packed and so i took a cab in search of a hotel(quite adventurous right?) a bit away from the station.and the driver said in broken english,” sahib one hotel, very good, big but little old. some say it is… (sighed) but sahib…. i went in front of the hotel many times…. nothing there….. all hotels only spreading rumours on others for business….. ”, his belly dancing with laughter. adventure before adventure? i laughed within myself as i was not much of a believer. i asked him to take me there and moreover, did not have any choice either. rain, which is quite common here, had already given me a grand welcome. ‘ the paradise’ …. not a bad name. room no. 888. now you know common human psychology…. i asked the porter what the driver or rather maybe the commissioned driver had told me. the porter was very helpful and he repeated the same words said by the cab driver while taking me up the stairs to my room but on reaching the entrance he dropped my luggage at the door and said, ”sir wish you a pleasant stay(looked blankly at me)…….and yes sir as i told you we don’t trust those hotels, they can go down to any extinct to shut us down….. so if you hear or see something just ignore it….ummm don’t open the entrance door at night to keep your
