આ મંદિર નાગર શૈલીનું એક અસામાન્ય સ્થાપત્ય ધરાવે છે. તે પાટ્ટડકલ અને ઐહોલેના શરૂઆતી દ્રવિડ મંદિરો સાથે સામ્યતા ધરાવે છે. તે છતની ગોઠવણી અને અંદરના પ્રાગંણની બાહ્ય દિવાલોમાં કાશ્મીરના મંદિરો સાથે સામ્યતા ધરાવે છે.[13] આવા મંદિરોમાં માર્તંડનું સૂર્યમંદિર, પાંડરેથાન અને પાયાર મંદિરોનો સમાવેશ થાય છે, જોકે તેઓ બધાં ૮મી સદી કરતાં જૂનાં છે. આ મંદિર પર ગાંધાર સ્થાપત્યનો પ્રભાવ છે, જે કુશાન સમયગાળા દરમિયાન ઉત્તર-પશ્ચિમ ભારતીય પરંપરા હતી, જે કદાચ બૌદ્ધો સિંધથી કાઠિયાવાડમાં લાવ્યા હશે જેનો કાશ્મીરી સ્થાપત્ય પર પણ પ્રભાવ છે. ગુપ્ત સમયના મંદિરોની જેમ, આ મંદિરનો પાયો ઉંચો અને ચોરસ છે અને પૂર્વ દિશામાં મુખ ધરાવે છે, પરંતુ પાયો વધુ ઉંચો છે અને મોટા પથ્થરોથી બનેલો છે, જે સ્થાનિક લાક્ષણિકતા દર્શાવે છે.[5][14] આ મંદિર જૂનાગઢની ઉપરકોટની ગુફાઓની જે ચૈત્ય બારીઓ ધરાવે છે. પરંતુ તેનો વેદિકા તરીકેનો ઉપયોગ થયો નથી, જેથી તે પાછળથી ઉમેરવામાં આવી હશે. મિરપુર ખાસના કાહુ-જો-દરો શિલ્પ ગોપ મંદિરના શિલ્પો જોડે સમાનતા ધરાવે છે. ૪થી અને ૫મી સદીનું હોવાથી ગોપ મંદિર કદાચ આ સમયગાળાના સમાન હોઇ શકે છે.[6][2] મંદિરની આજુબાજુ મળેલા લાલ માટીના વાસણો પરથી તે પશ્ચિમી સત્રપ સમયગાળાનું હોઇ શકે છે.[4] મંદિરના લાકડાના મોભની રેડિયોકાર્બન વય મંદિર ઇ.સ. ૫૫૦નું હોવાની ખાત્રી કરે છે.[4][12]
