(یہ) ایسے لوگ (ہیں) جو مسلمانوں کی بجائے کافروں کو دوست بناتے ہیں، کیا یہ ان کے پاس عزت تلاش کرتے ہیں؟ پس عزت تو ساری اللہ (تعالٰی) کے لئے ہے،

(such blind ones) try to confuse what we have revealed to you so that they may falsely ascribe to us something other than the true revelation and thus establish friendship with you.
(اے رسول(ص)) یہ (کافر) اس بات میں کوشاں تھے (اور اس کا ارادہ کر لیا تھا کہ) آپ کو اس (کتاب) سے پھیر دیں جو ہم نے آپ کی طرف بذریعۂ وحی بھیجی ہے تاکہ آپ اس کے خلاف کوئی بات گڑھ گھڑ کر ہماری طرف منسوب کریں اور اس صورت میں وہ ضرور آپ کو اپنا گہرا دوست بنا لیتے۔

have you not seen those who have established friendship with the people who are subject to the wrath of god? they do not belong to you nor you to them, yet they knowingly try to prove their point by using false oaths.
بھلا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جو ایسوں سے دوستی کرتے ہیں جن پر خدا کا غضب ہوا۔ وہ نہ تم میں ہیں نہ ان میں۔ اور جان بوجھ کر جھوٹی باتوں پر قسمیں کھاتے ہیں

they wish you to become unbelievers as they themselves are. do not establish friendship with them until they have abandoned their homes for the cause of god. if they betray you, seize them and slay them wherever you find them. do not establish friendship with them or seek their help
ان کی تو چاہت ہے کہ جس طرح کے کافر وه ہیں تو بھی ان کی طرح کفر کرنے لگو اور پھر سب یکساں ہو جاؤ، پس جب تک یہ اسلام کی خاطر وطن نہ چھوڑیں ان میں سے کسی کو حقیقی دوست نہ بناؤ، پھر اگر یہ منھ پھیر لیں تو انہیں پکڑو اور قتل کرو جہاں بھی یہ ہاتھ لگ جائیں، خبردار! ان میں سے کسی کو اپنا رفیق اور مددگار نہ سمجھ بیٹھنا

believers, do not establish friendship with the people who have become subject to the wrath of god. they do not have any hope in the life to come, just as the disbelievers have no hope in those who are in their graves.
ایمان والو خبردار اس قوم سے ہرگز دوستی نہ کرنا جس پر خدا نے غضب نازل کیا ہے کہ وہ آخرت سے اسی طرح مایوس ہوں گے جس طرح کفاّر قبر والوں سے مایوس ہوجاتے ہیں

the believers must not establish friendship with the unbelievers in preference to the faithful. whoever does so has nothing to hope for from god unless he does it out of fear or taqiyah (pious dissimulation). god warns you about himself. to god do all things return.
(خبردار) اہل ایمان، اہل ایمان کو چھوڑ کر کافروں کو دوست (اور سرپرست) نہ بنائیں۔ اور جو ایسا کرے گا۔ اس کا خدا سے کوئی تعلق اور سروکار نہیں ہوگا۔ مگر یہ کہ تمہیں ان (کافروں) سے خوف ہو تو پھر (بقصد تقیہ اور بچاؤ) ایسا کرنے میں کوئی حرج نہیں ہے۔ اور خدا تمہیں اپنی ذات سے ڈراتا ہے اور خدا ہی کی طرف پلٹ کر جانا ہے۔
