was not the covenant of the scripture taken from them that they would not say about allah except the truth, and they studied what was in it?
Оё аз онҳо паймон нагирифтаанд, ки дар бораи Худо ҷуз ба ростӣ сухан нагӯянд, ҳол он ки он чӣ дар-он китоб омада буд, хонда буданд?

they have studied what is in it, and [know that] the abode of the hereafter is better for those who are godwary.
Сарое охират барои касоне, ки мепарҳезанд, беҳтар аст.

hath not the covenant of the scripture been taken on their behalf that they should not speak aught concerning allah save the truth? and they have studied that which is therein.
Оё аз онҳо паймон нагирифтаанд, ки дар бораи Худо ҷуз ба ростӣ сухан нагӯянд, ҳол он ки он чӣ дар-он китоб омада буд, хонда буданд?

and thus we variously propound the revelation, and this is in order that they may say: thou hast studied, and that we may expound it to a people who know.
Оёти Худоро инчунин гуногун баён мекунем, то мабод, ки бигӯянд, ки аз касе дарс гирифтаӣ ва мо ин оётро барои аҳли дониш баён мекунем.

[he would say rather], "be devoted servants of god, for you have taught and studied the scriptures."
Ва ҳол он ки паёмбарон мегӯянд: «Ҳамчунон, ки аз китоби Худо меомӯзед ва дар он мехонед, парастандагони Худо бошед».

as such we make plain our verses, so that they can say: 'you have studied' in order that we clarify it to a nation that knows.
Оёти Худоро инчунин гуногун баён мекунем, то мабод, ки бигӯянд, ки аз касе дарс гирифтаӣ ва мо ин оётро барои аҳли дониш баён мекунем.

and thus do we diversify the verses so the disbelievers will say, "you have studied," and so we may make the qur'an clear for a people who know.

those to whom we have sent the book study it as it should be studied: they are the ones that believe therein: those who reject faith therein,- the loss is their own.
Касоне, ки китобашон додаем ва ончунон, ки сазовор аст, онро мехонанд, ба он имон доранд ва онон, ки ба он имон надоранд, зиёнкорон ҳастанд.

and after them in their place, came those unworthy successors who inherited the books – they accept the goods of this world (as bribes) and say, “we shall soon be forgiven”; and if similar goods come to them again, they would accept it; was not the covenant taken from them in the book, that they must not relate anything to allah except the truth, and they have studied it?
Баъд аз инҳо гурӯҳе ба ҷояшон нишастанд ва вориси он китоб шуданд, ки ба матоъи дунявӣ дил бастанд ва гуфтанд, ки ба зудӣ омурзида мешавем. Ва агар монанди он боз ҳам матоъо биёбанд, баргиранд.
