corot ha individuato un pianeta intorno alla stella corot-7, alla sinistra di orione e nella costellazione del monoceros(l’unicorno), distante all’incirca 500 anni luce da noi, già nella primavera del 2008. l’annuncio ufficiale è però arrivato quasi un anno dopo, il 3 febbraio 2009, dopo la conferma ottenuta grazie a lunghe osservazioni con telescopi terrestri.
corot first caught sight of a planet transiting the star corot-7, to the left of orion in the constellation of monoceros (the unicorn), about 500 light-years away, in spring 2008. however, confirming the planet’s nature took months with large ground-based telescopes, so its discovery wasn’t officially announced until 3 february 2009.
