وانا اريد ان اقول لكل واحد من الجمهور هنا ان كنت تعتقد ان كل أُم وكل طفل في هذا العالم يستحق ان يحصل على العلاج والتغذية الملائمة له وان نحقق أهداف " الالفية " التنموية التي وضعتها الامم المتحدة وخاصة الهدف الخامس والسادس من تلك الخطة وانه على كل الحكومات حول العالم ان تلتزم بتحقيقها وخاصة في شبه الصحراء الافريقية ان يقف الآن من فضلكم
so, i would like to say to you, each one in the audience, if you feel that every mother and every child in the world has the right to have access to good nutrition and good medical care, and you believe that the millennium development goals, specifically five and six, should be absolutely committed to by all governments around the world -- especially in sub-saharan africa -- could you please stand up.

حين اعتمدت الجمعية العامة إعلان الالتزام في حزيران/يونيه السنة الماضية، لاحظت بقلق بالغ أنه، في نهاية السنة 2000، كان 36.1 مليون نسمة يعيشون في جميع أنحاء العالم وهم مصابون بفيروس نقص المناعة البشرية/الإيدز، وأن 75 في المائة منهم موجودون في أفريقيا شبه الصحراء الكبرى؛ واليوم يقدر الرقم بأكثر من 40 مليونا.
when the general assembly adopted the declaration of commitment in june last year, it noted with profound concern that, at the end of the year 2000, 36.1 million people worldwide would be living with hiv/aids and that 75 per cent of them would be found in sub-saharan africa; today the figure is estimated at more than $40 million.
