erstens möchte ich im gegensatz zum kollegen schulz sagen: die tschechische ratspräsidentschaft unter ministerpräsident topolánek war bisher eine hervorragende ratspräsidentschaft.
firstly, unlike mr schulz, i should like to say that the czech presidency under prime minister topolánek has so far been an excellent presidency.

vielen dank, herr präsident des europäischen rates, auch für ihre entschlossenheit, ihre arbeiten im rahmen der ratspräsidentschaft trotz der schwierigen situation in ihrem land weiterzuführen.
thank you, mr president-in-office of the european council, for your determination to continue the work of the presidency despite the difficult situation in your country.

ich komme gleich noch einmal darauf zurück. zunächst will ich einmal etwas an die ratspräsidentschaft richten. sie haben eine gute ratspräsidentschaft hingelegt. der parlamentspräsident hat zu recht gesagt, es war eine parlamentsfreundliche ratspräsidentschaft.
i shall come back to this in just a moment. firstly, there is something that i should like to say to the presidency of the council. you ran a good presidency. the president of this house has rightly said that it was a parliament-friendly presidency.

herr präsident, meine sehr geehrten damen und herren! auch ich möchte der tschechischen ratspräsidentschaft gratulieren. der gestrige abschluss beim roaming war sensationell. davon haben die bürgerinnen und bürger europas etwas.

und ich bin stolz darauf, dass dies die erste ratspräsidentschaft aus einem früheren warschauer-pakt-land war und ist, die alle unterstützung verdient, um die einigung europas auch darin zu symbolisieren.
i am proud that this was and is the first presidency from a former warsaw pact country and it deserves all possible support in that it symbolises the unity of europe.

daher fordere ich sie auch auf: verstecken sie sich nicht hinter irland, setzen sie einen schritt, ratifizieren sie den lissabon-vertrag vor dem europatag 2009, noch während ihrer ratspräsidentschaft! wir werden sie nach ihren taten messen und nicht nach den aussagen ihres präsidenten in tschechien.
therefore, i would make the following appeal: do not hide behind ireland, take a step forward, ratify the treaty of lisbon before europe day 2009, before the end of your council presidency. we shall judge you by your deeds and not by the comments by your president in the czech republic.
