diede una buona descrizione del cosiddetto oidium tuckeri e determinò in tal modo un progresso nella conoscenza della organizzazione di erysiphe , scoprendo tanto nel fungo dell'uva quanto in altre specie di erysiphe la forma di fruttificazione fino a quel momento sconosciuta, la quale diede occasione a ehrenberg di enunciare il genere cicinobolus . anche a lui però rimase nascosta la relazione di questa fruttificazione a quelle già in precedenza conosciute in erysiphe , ragion per cui egli spiegò sì per possibile ma non per probabile che l' oidium tuckeri sia una erysiphe . riguardo alla questione vivamente dibattuta a quel tempo in italia, se il fungo sia causa o effetto della malattia, egli si collocò dalla parte dei sostenitori di quest'ultima opinione (h. von mohl, giambattista amici, cit.).
