diwali also known as deepavali and the "festival of lights", is a hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year. this festival shows the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. many celebrate diwali as the return of the lord rama, his wife sita and his brother lakshmana from the 14 years of exile, as told in the hindu epic called the ramayana. to some, diwali is the return of pandavas after 12 years of vanvas which is an exile in the forest and one year of agyatavas in the other ancient hindu epic called the mahabharata. yes, diwali means festival of lights. but that doesn’t mean bursting crackers. crackers will cause pollution. people get affected by diseases. old people get irritated due to the noise. little children make these crackers instead of going to school. so buying these crackers will encourage them to make more instead of studying. and last it’s burning money. i want to celebrate diwali with my family. i am going to use my pocket money for buying food, clothes and other necessities for the orphans in the orphanage. it will not burn my money and make me and them happy. diwali is a festival of joy so let’s pledge not to cause harm to anyone and make everyone happy.
