mwenye kuzuia kheri, dhaalimu, mwingi wa madhambi,

those whose efforts are misguided in the life of the world, while they suppose they are doing good.’
ni wale ambao juhudi yao katika maisha ya dunia imepotea bure, nao wanadhani kwamba wanafanya kazi nzuri.

it is they who vie with one another in doing good works and shall be the foremost in doing so.
basi wote hao ndio wanao kimbilia katika mambo ya kheri, na ndio watakao tangulia kuyafikia.

they are those whose efforts have been wasted in the life of the world while they thought they were doing good.
ni wale ambao juhudi yao katika maisha ya dunia imepotea bure, nao wanadhani kwamba wanafanya kazi nzuri.

it will be those whose effort went astray in the life of the world and who believe nevertheless that they are doing good.

as for the first outstrippers among the migrants and supporters and those who followed them in doing good, allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with him. he has prepared for them gardens underneath which rivers flow, where they shall live for ever.
na wale walio tangulia, wa kwanza, katika wahajiri na ansari, na walio wafuata kwa wema, mwenyezi mungu ameridhika nao, na wao wameridhika naye; na amewaandalia bustani zipitazo mito kati yake, wadumu humo milele.

[we said], "if you persevere in doing good, you will be doing good to yourselves; but if you do evil, it will go against you."
basi mkifanya wema, mnajifanyia wema nafsi zenu. na mkifanya ubaya, mnajifanyia wenyewe.

(even though you have the right to speak evil if you are wronged), if you keep doing good -whether openly or secretly -or at least pardon the evil (then that is the attribute of allah). allah is all-pardoning and he has all the power to chastise.
