il suo cuore vibra d'amore per il vicario di cristo, come testimonia una lettera che invia il 12 settembre 1968, poco prima della sua morte, a papa paolo vi: «so che il vostro cuore soffre molto in questi giorni per il destino della chiesa, per la pace nel mondo, per i tanto numerosi bisogni dei popoli, ma soprattutto a causa della mancanza di obbedienza di certi cattolici nei riguardi nell'elevato insegnamento que voi ci date, assistito dallo spirito santo e in nome di dio. vi offro la mia preghiera, e la mia sofferenza quotidiana... affinchè il signore vi riconforti con la sua grazia, per continuare a seguire la via diritta e difficile, difendendo l'eterna verità... vi ringrazio anche per le parole chiare e decisive che avete pronunciato, in particolare nell'ultima enciclica, humanæ vitæ, e riaffermo la mia fede, come pure la mia obbedienza incondizionata alle vostre chiare direttive».
