but who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:

men herren er gud i sannhet, han er en levende gud og en evig konge; for hans vrede bever jorden, og hedningefolkene kan ikke utholde hans harme.
but the lord is the true god, he is the living god, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.

og herren lar sin røst høre foran sin fylking, for hans hær er såre stor, og sterk er den som fullbyrder hans ord; for stor er herrens dag og såre forferdelig - hvem kan utholde den?
and the lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

hvem holder stand for hans harme, og hvem utholder hans brennende vrede? hans harme strømmer frem som ild, og fjellene styrter sammen for ham.
who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
