walking down a narrow lane along the tree lined path, i heard someone talking above. i was worried and looked up, i saw a beautiful but torn umbrella stuck on a branch. i climbed the tree and pulled it down. oh! what a beauty! it was in the shape of a bunny and it had two lovely long ears on its side. i took it and was looking at it. it said in a soft voice, “listen, listen i shall tell you my life story.” i was manufactured in singapore’s lam factory where they have beautiful umbrellas for kids and adults. they have beautiful designs on them. we were all sent to india where i was bought by a girl for her sister as a birthday gift. she took great care of me and proudly took me where ever she went. i was her pride and joy, she and her friends handled me with care. i was with my little mistress for two seasons. she loved me a lot. once it was raining heavily, my little mistress went out to play, and the strong breeze carried me away and i was stuck in a small branch she tried to pull me down and in that process, i was torn. she left me on this tree and went away. her parents tried to stop her but she wept and wept, finally they bought her a new umbrella. - gunjan sanghvi (vi-c)
