l'occhio è situato nella cavità orbitale, appartiene alla sotto-regione del muso, è un corpo sferico composto, tra l'altro, dalla cornea, dalla sclera e dall'iride nel cui centro si trova la pupilla, è circondato dalle palpebre (superiore ed inferiore) che nel chihuahua devono essere ben aderenti al globo oculare.i punti d''incontro delle due palpebre si definiscono canti o angoli, mediale quello interno, ossia rivolto verso l'asse mediale della testa (linea immaginaria che divide la testa in modo longitudinale in due parti esattamente uguali), laterale quello esterno, rivolto verso le linee laterali cranio-facciali.la cinognostica classifica la posizione degli occhi in frontale, sub-frontale, semilaterale, laterale, ultra-laterale. per poter classificare la posizione degli occhi bisogna misurare l'angolo determinato dall'asse palpebrale (ossia la retta che congiunge il canto laterale a quello mediale dell'occhio) con l'asse longitudinale mediale della testa. l'occhio frontale è quello in cui le due linee formano un angolo che si avvicina a 90° ed è questo il caso del chihuahua.
