እዚህ እጄን ስጠኝ?

" and give me a minister from my family ,
« ከቤተሰቦቼም ለእኔ ረዳትን አድርግልኝ ፡ ፡

give me a good name among later generations ;
በኋለኞቹም ሕዝቦች ውስጥ ለእኔ መልካም ዝናን አድርግልኝ ፡ ፡

and give me a reputation of truth among the others .

he said : ' forgive me my lord , and give me a kingdom the like of which will not befall any after me , surely , you are the giver '
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ለእኔ ማር ፡ ፡ ከእኔ በኋላ ለአንድም የማይገባንም ንግሥና ስጠኝ ፡ ፡ አንተ ለጋሱ አንተ ብቻ ነህና » አለ ፡ ፡

maybe my lord will give me a garden better than yours , and send down a thunderbolt from heaven , so that in the morning it will be a slope of dust ,
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

perhaps my lord will give me a garden better than yours and strike your garden with a thunderbolt from the sky to turn it into a barren ground ,
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

yet , my lord may haply give me a garden better than yours , and he may send a thunder-bolt , from the skies and in the morning it will be a barren plain ;
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

he said , “ my lord , give me a sign . ” he said , “ your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights straight . ”
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

i will punish him most severely , or slay him , unless he gives me a valid excuse . ”
« ብርቱን ቅጣት በእርግጥ እቀጣዋለሁ ፡ ፡ ወይም በእርግጥ ዐርደዋለሁ ፤ ወይም ግልጽ በኾነ አስረጅ ይመጣኛል » ( አለ )

he said : my lord ! give me a sign . he said : your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health .
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

he said , “ my lord , give me a sign ” ; he said , “ your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights , although in proper health . ”
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

i shall surely punish him severely or order him to be executed , unless he gives me a good reason for his absence . "
« ብርቱን ቅጣት በእርግጥ እቀጣዋለሁ ፡ ፡ ወይም በእርግጥ ዐርደዋለሁ ፤ ወይም ግልጽ በኾነ አስረጅ ይመጣኛል » ( አለ )

he said , ' my lord , forgive me , and give me a kingdom such as may not befall anyone after me ; surely thou art the all-giver . '
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ለእኔ ማር ፡ ፡ ከእኔ በኋላ ለአንድም የማይገባንም ንግሥና ስጠኝ ፡ ፡ አንተ ለጋሱ አንተ ብቻ ነህና » አለ ፡ ፡

“ so it is likely that my lord will give me a garden better than yours , and send bolts of lightning from the skies on your garden – it therefore turns into a barren plain . ”
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

he said : i will by no means send him with you until you give me a firm covenant in allah 's name that you will most certainly bring him back to me , unless you are completely surrounded . and when they gave him their covenant , he said : allah is the one in whom trust is placed as regards what we say .
« ካልተከበባችሁ በስተቀር እርሱን በእርግጥ የምታመጡልኝ ለመሆናችሁ ከአላህ የሆነን ቃል ኪዳን መተማመኛ እስከምትሰጡኝ ድረስ ከእናንተ ጋር ፈጽሞ አልልከውም » አላቸው ፡ ፡ መተማመኛቸውንም በሰጡት ጊዜ « አላህ በምንለው ሁሉ ላይ ምስክር ነው » አላቸው ፡ ፡

( zakariya ) said : " o my lord ! give me a sign . " " thy sign , " was the answer , " shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights , although thou art not dumb . "
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡
