1322 hours it was seen in the majarr area flying at an altitude of some 7 kilometres. 23 march 2000 at 1830 hours two iranian soldiers at the position opposite the irfan post at coordinates 9964 fired three rounds from gc assault rifles at the iraqi post. 23 march 2000 at 0700 hours a large zil truck carrying 20 soldiers was seen coming to a halt in the area opposite the tahrir post. two 180-pound tents were pitched at coordinates 5840 and 5841. the truck then returned to iran's tawus post at coordinates 5939. 24 march 2000 at 1730 hours a remotely piloted aircraft overflew the residential area 7 kilometres south of the azz river at an altitude of 100 metres. the aircraft, which closely resembled the israeli mastiff type, was brought down. 28 march 2000 at 0900 hours an aircraft coming from the iranian rear landed at the shalamjah post at coordinates 9177. at 1230 hours it took off and headed back inside iranian territory. 28 march 2000 at 2230 hours a mortar round fired for illumination purposes was seen opposite our units at coordinates 8068. 28 march 2000 at 2215 hours the iranians launched a mortar round for illumination purposes at a point opposite our units at coordinates 7068. 29 march 2000 at 1200 hours three policemen from the naft khanah police station proceeding from position 136 to position 37 at coordinates 4569 (1:100,000 map of khanaqin) were ambushed when they lost their way and wandered 1 kilometre into iranian territory. this caused the loss of private abbas jasim jawdah. the others, namely private samir umran sa`dun and private wadi kazim, returned. all three belonged to the oil-protection police force. 30 march 2000 at 2025 hours one yellow illumination round was observed inside iraqi territory opposite our units at coordinates 672597 (wadi ahwiyah). 7 april 2000 at 1200 hours the iranians brought out the body of the late policeman private abbas jasim jawdah and placed it near the international boundary in an area near that in which the incident had taken place. signal flags were shown, and the body was evacuated by personnel from the naft khanah police station. it transpired that private jawdah had been hit in the abdomen and chest by several rounds. 8 april 2000 at 1120 hours an iranian helicopter coming from muhammarah flew opposite our units at coordinates 9074 before withdrawing to the iranian rear. 8 april 2000 a new iranian position was established opposite our units at coordinates 585420, and it was manned by four persons armed with gc assault rifles. 8 april 2000 at 1230 hours an iranian helicopter was seen heading from north to south along the border strip at an altitude of 50 metres and at a distance of 300 metres from the international embankment. it reconnoitred the sector opposite our units at coordinates 9078 before returning to the iranian rear. 9 april 2000 at 1300 hours the iranians established a new position at coordinates 585405 and manned it with four persons armed with gc assault rifles. 10 april 2000 at 0945 hours an iranian helicopter was seen reconnoitring along the boundary line opposite our units in the shalamjah area and heading from north to south at a distance of 400 metres from the line and at an altitude of 100 metres. it returned to the iranian rear by way of muhammarah. 10 april 2000 at 0600 hours a khaki-coloured helicopter was seen heading from the iranian rear towards the shayb post at an altitude of 30 metres. it reached a point near the international boundary and then circled back inside iranian territory in the direction of basitin. 10 april 2000 at 1000 hours a khaki-coloured helicopter was seen coming from the iranian rear at an altitude of 30 metres. it landed at coordinates 5150, near the metal tower at fakkah. four persons, three soldiers and a civilian wearing a turban, alighted. at 1300 hours it took off for the iranian rear. 11 april 2000 at 1000 hours a helicopter was seen opposite our units at coordinates 7158 (wadi al-shahabi). 11 april 2000 at 0750 hours a helicopter was seen in front of our units at coordinates 6760, opposite abu gharb at coordinates 6759 and wadi khawsiyah, flying along the international boundary. at 0805 hours it returned to the iranian rear. 11 april 2000 at 2130 hours a yellow illumination flare was seen 4 kilometres south of mina al-bakr. it remained aloft for a period of three seconds. 12 april 2000 at 0300 hours a helicopter was seen at high altitude 10 kilometres south of mina al-bakr. 12 april 2000 at 1200 hours the iranians established a new position opposite our units at coordinates 587539 and manned it with 10 persons, some of them in khaki uniforms and armed with gc assault rifles. 12 april 2000
