2the amendment provides for the transfer of birdwing butterflies (ornithoptera) from part 1 to part 2 of annex c to the regulation, thus enabling imports for commercial purposes to be authorized provided that this would not have a harmful effect on the conservation of the species or on the extent of the territory occupied by the population in question of the species, it is now believed that trade involving ranch­ing of birdwing butterflies is beneficial to the conservation of wild populations.
