i had so far ignored charges made to the effect that the hierarchy of the catholic church in the philippines had instigated and was behind the movement for the enactment of the bill regarding religious instruction in the philippines. but the pastoral letter signed by the metropolitan archbishop of cebu and the suffragan bishops of that ecclesiastical province is an incontrovertible evidence that we did face at the last session of the assembly, and we do face now, one of the most menacing evils that can confront the government and people of the philippines; namely, the interference of the church in the affairs of the state

Inglese

i am amazed at the boldness of the metropolitan arch bishop and suffragan bishops of the ecclesiastical province of cebu in taking up at an episcopal conference a matter concerning the constitutional duties and prerogatives of the officials and branches of the government of the commonwealth.

when we say we want gender equity we mean we want the same opportunities to grow and thrive, work hard and succeed as men have. after all, we’re fifty-fifty but within that fifty percent womanhood there are many variations that get misunderstood we all have identities on top of our gender and some of those get supported better race, religion and nationality age, ability and sexuality there is no one size fits all strategy to empowering woman equitably let’s talk about norms - they’re used to define the traits and qualities that fit in line with what we expect to see and hear the narrower they are, the more women disappear in order to support the mental space for all women to thrive in this little rat race we need to expand the norms we believe are indicative of what it looks like to succeed language, mannerisms, accents, style let’s not make some women go the extra mile to conform to standards that are arbitrary and don’t reflect the skills that are necessary even things as simple as where we pee can be less inclusive when they’re binary gender has many more variations restrooms can be safe or intimidating feeling forced into boxes can hurt and also, not all women wear skirts speaking of not one size fits all swag is a place where we often drop the ball first of all, “unisex” means men’s and within women’s styles, there are at least ten fits and sizes that can embody the many shapes of women’s bodies it’s easy to do and so we should order shirt sizes that make us feel good another good intention gone wrong is when we talk about benefits for moms as though they are there for all women and as though they are not also there for men breast milk shipping and pumping stations are only for a subset of the women population these benefits are crucial, there’s still a mom penalty and we need to support moms with vast amenities but we need to remember: not all women are mothers and when we conflate the two, some can feel othered we also need cultures that support all women regardless of whether or not they have children and also remember: not all mothers deliver or nurse, or bleed, or are primary care givers when we talk about support for moms, let’s go beyond the clinical so that we don’t make some mothers feel nearly invisible employee resource groups, or ergs are a great way to support underrepresented employees one popular incarnation of this employee perk is the formation of a women’s network this is a great way to create community and advocate for practices that push for equity but we also must remember that not everybody considers their gender their most pressing identity in need of support and a centered space many find that in their sexuality or race or ability or age, or veteran status or multiple different identities, and that is why we need to focus on intersectionality to collaborate between networks and serve all identities another place gender equity comes into play is our necessary focus on equal pay we acknowledge when all women make the same staples as men did last year - it’s usually in april but this is a miss - it’s not indicative of dollars that take longer to attain for women of color black women don’t catch up until later in the summer and latina women take all the way to november equal pay is crucial to workplace equity so let’s make sure we’re looking at it granularly historically white women are first to see progress we can’t relax until no women see any less how we communicate needs to be as nuanced as the many ways that women are seen as “too hard” or “too soft” not all women respond to words and images in the same ways and with the same references much of the marketing around “women’s” goods has a very narrow definition of womanhood we don’t all love pink, don’t all want to be skinny don’t all drink sparkling peach appletinis we don’t all wear heels, we don’t all like cooking we don’t all want husbands or children or bling and we don’t have the same interpretation of language like “full court press” and “competitive advantage” “don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater” might not make sense to a different culture the way we communicate opportunities needs to account for different personalities some women are ready to raise their hand for the next big thing they want to do, and… some women won’t, but doesn’t mean they’re not qualified they might be scared to ask, but we need to put that aside and create career paths that don’t require the loudest and proudest women to aspire a seat at the table is not enough to create… equity, if women don’t feel comfortable and safe to share their ideas, in the way that works for them that’s why 75 percent of airtime in meetings goes to men and what about introverts and remote employees esl speakers and those that speak softly without a chance to contribute equally it’s hard to attain true gender equity the many variables that women need to succeed are far more than 20 slides can capture at fast speed scheduling, temperature, accessibility breaking down biases and providing flexibility we need to remember women’s many identities and then create systems that work towards equity this is more than a list or some boxes to check we have multi-dimensional matrices to inspect to break down the 50 percent into stories and understand women in all of their glory but the hard work is worth it, without a doubt we have too much untapped talent just waiting to come out we’re all here right now because we give a shit about gender equity. and this is it.

to whom it may concern: it is my pleasure to strongly recommend annie chiu for a position as a data analyst for l&q international. i am robert cunningham, a regional manager at mountain view unlimited. i have 15 years of experience working as a statistician and client services specialist and have seen many young professionals come and go. annie chiu is one individual i have worked with who uniquely stands out. during our time together, annie displayed great talents in technical applications, such as arcgis, r coding, python and several other data visualization tools. when we first met, i was immediately impressed with annie and the technical skills she had on day one, but during the time worked together, her understanding of data analysis and the tools of the trade grew far more than that of her peers. my first experience with annie’s adaptability came not long after she was hired. last year, we had one client who sent data in excel that needed extensive cleanup. at that time, annie’s experience with excel was limited, but she worked extra hours to learn how to properly clean up data in excel through the use of functions. within the week, the client’s data was properly formatted so that it could be effectively analyzed and visualized. annie even handled the data visualization with skill and the client had nothing but praise for the end result. it’s not just her technical skills that impress me, however. annie was a joy to work with because of her amazingly positive attitude and eagerness to stick tightly to deadlines. her can-do attitude and team-building skills were also necessary and valued not just by myself, but by her peers, who often relied on her to get the job done. i am absolutely confident that annie would be a great fit for l&q international. not only will she bring the kind of skills and experiences you’re looking for in an applicant, she will quickly become an asset and help l&q international grow in any way she can. if you need more information or specific examples, please do not hesitate to contact me at 555-123-4567, or by email at rcunningham@mvunlimited.com. as a recommendation letter likely only provides a snapshot of her talents and achievements, i would be happy to further elaborate on my time working with her. sincerely, robert cunningham regional manager mountain view unlimited

adam tells the story of his two-planet home world, unique with "dual gravity", allowing the two planets to orbit each other in extremely close proximity. three immutable laws of gravity exist for this two-planet system: all matter is only pulled by the gravity of the world that it comes from.an object's weight can be offset using matter from the opposite world (inverse matter).after a few hours of contact, matter in contact with inverse matter burns. the two societies are segregated by law. while the upper world (up top) is rich and prosperous, the lower (down below) is poor. up top buys cheap oil from down below and sells electricity back to down below at higher prices. contact of down below people with up top ones is strictly forbidden, punishable by incarceration or death. people from up top regularly go down below to experience novelties like dancing on ceilings. the only official physical connection linking the two worlds is "transworld" company headquarters. adam lives in an orphanage in down, with his only living relative being his great-aunt, who he visits every week. her secret flying pancakes recipe uses pollen from pink bees which gather pollen from both worlds. the recipe has passed through generations and will be inherited by adam. as a child, adam secretly climbs a mountain that reaches very close to up. there he meets eden, a girl from up and they develop a relationship. meeting on the mountains, adam uses a rope to pull eden towards down, and they head to the woods for a stroll. discovered, adam frantically releases eden back to her world, catching a bullet in his arm and dropping her. helpless, he watches eden lying motionless on the ground as blood oozes from her head. when he returns home, his aunt becky is arrested and her home burned. ten years later, adam is developing an anti-gravity product which allows matter to respond to both gravitational fields at once, a cosmetic product for face-lifts. when he sees eden on tv, he realises she is alive and working at transworld. completing his formula and hired by transworld to develop the cream, adam's plan is to find eden in transworld. he becomes friends with bob, a transworld employee from up. adam helps him obtain rare stamps from down and bob helps him contact eden. bob gives adam material to disguise himself as a worker from up. eden doesn't recognize him because of amnesia from the accident. adam's clothes starts to burn so he has to return to down. later on, bob is fired but as he leaves, he secretly gives adam his id to help him exit the transworld building and into up. later, calling eden through bob's phone, adam manages to get a date. meanwhile, as his cosmetic cream is very important for the company, adam presents it in the lecture hall. when eden enters and discovers his true identity, she flees. adam runs to find her but bob's id, having been fired, lands him in trouble. he escapes to bob's and he shows him that mixing liquids from both gravity fields can make a hybrid solution that resists both fields and simply

we all have been affected by the current covid-19 pandemic. however, the impact of the pandemic and its consequences are felt differently depending on our status as individuals and as members of society. while some try to adapt to working online, homeschooling their children and ordering food via instacart, others have no choice but to be exposed to the virus while keeping society functioning. our different social identities and the social groups we belong to determine our inclusion within society and, by extension, our vulnerability to epidemics. covid-19 is killing people on a large scale. as of october 10, 2020, more than 7.7 million people across every state in the united states and its four territories had tested positive for covid-19. according to the new york times database, at least 213,876 people with the virus have died in the united states.[1] however, these alarming numbers give us only half of the picture; a closer look at data by different social identities (such as class, gender, age, race, and medical history) shows that minorities have been disproportionally affected by the pandemic. these minorities in the united states are not having their right to health fulfilled. according to the world health organization’s report closing the gap in a generation: health equity through action on the social determinants of health, “poor and unequal living conditions are the consequences of deeper structural conditions that together fashion the way societies are organized—poor social policies and programs, unfair economic arrangements, and bad politics.”[2] this toxic combination of factors as they play out during this time of crisis, and as early news on the effect of the covid-19 pandemic pointed out, is disproportionately affecting african american communities in the united states. i recognize that the pandemic has had and is having devastating effects on other minorities as well, but space does not permit this essay to explore the impact on other minority groups. employing a human rights lens in this analysis helps us translate needs and social problems into rights, focusing our attention on the broader sociopolitical structural context as the cause of the social problems. human rights highlight the inherent dignity and worth of all people, who are the primary rights-holders.[3] governments (and other social actors, such as corporations) are the duty-bearers, and as such have the obligation to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights.[4] human rights cannot be separated from the societal contexts in which they are recognized, claimed, enforced, and fulfilled. specifically, social rights, which include the right to health, can become important tools for advancing people’s citizenship and enhancing their ability to participate as active members of society.[5] such an understanding of social rights calls our attention to the concept of equality, which requires that we place a greater emphasis on “solidarity” and the “collective.”[6] furthermore, in order to generate equality, solidarity, and social integration, the fulfillment of social rights is not optional.[7] in order to fulfill social integration, social policies need to reflect a commitment to respect and protect the most vulnerable individuals and to create the conditions for the fulfillment of economic and social rights for all.
