དེ་ལྟར་ན་ཚངས་པར་སྤྱོད་པ་འདི་ནི་རྒྱ་ཆེ་བ།
“thus it is that such a one who lives purely is magnanimous,

མས་སྨྲས་པ། འདི་དག་ནི་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ། མཐུ་ཆེ་བ།
” his mother replied, “it did not fall upon them because they possess miraculous powers and great might;

གང་གི་ཚེ་ཨང་གའི་རྒྱལ་པོ་དཔུང་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་དེའི་ཚེ་ན།
at a time when the king of aṅga and his armies were dominant,

རེས་འགའ་ནི་རྒྱལ་པོ་པད་མ་ཆེན་པོ་དཔུང་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་ཡིན་ནོ། །
at other times, king mahāpadma and his armies were dominant.

ཀླུ་རྣམས་ནི་གཉིད་ཆེ་བ་ཡིན་པས་དེ་གང་གི་ཚེ་གཉིད་ལོག་ནས་
as nāgas require a lot of sleep, he would soon fall into slumber.

བྲམ་ཟེ་མདུན་ན་འདོན་གྲུ་འཛིན་ཅེས་བྱ་བ་ཕྱུག་པ་ནོར་མང་བ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་ཆེ་བ།
there lived a royal priest named potalaka who was wealthy with many riches and goods,

བདག་ཀྱང་དགེ་བའི་རྩ་བ་འདིས་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བར་གྱུར་ཅིག་ཅེས་བཏབ་བོ།
through these roots of virtue may i too become powerful and a great miracle worker.’“

གསེར་གྱི་མདོག་འདྲ་བ། མགོ་གདུགས་ལྟ་བུ་དང་ལྡན་པ། ལག་པ་རིང་བ། འཕྲལ་བའི་དབྱེས་ཆེ་བ།
with a golden complexion, a head shaped well like a parasol, long arms, a broad forehead,

ཡང་བསམས་པ། འཕགས་པ་དགེ་འདུན་འཚོ་ནི་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་ཡིན་པས་འདི་ལྟར་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཆེན་པོར་
but then, on reflection, it occurred to them, “the noble saṅgharakṣita possesses miraculous powers and great might.

མཉན་ཡོད་ན་ཁྱིམ་བདག་སངས་རྒྱས་འཚོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ཕྱུག་པ་ནོར་མང་བ་ལོངས་སྤྱོད་ཆེ་བ་ཞིག་འདུག་པ་
buddharakṣita, a wealthy householder with much riches and goods who lived in Śrāvastī,

དེ་ན་ཀླུ་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ་དང་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་གཞན་གང་དག་ཡིན་པ་དེ་དག་གི་ལུས་ལ་བྱེ་མ་མེའི་མདོག་ལྟ་བུ་མི་འབབ་ནས་དེས་སྨྲས་པ།
through all of this, fiery sand had not fallen on other nāgas who possessed miraculous powers and great might, prompting him to ask,

དེ་ནི་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་ཡིན་པས་དེ་ཆེས་སྔོན་དུ་སོང་བ་གང་ཡིན་པ་དེ་ལྟ་བུའི་གནས་ཡོད་དོ་སྙམ་ནས་
with his miraculous powers and great might, he must have gone far ahead of us and be waiting there now.”

འདི་ལྟར་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་འདི་གཉིས་ཀྱི་འོད་དག་ཉམས་སུ་མི་མྱོང་བའི་མུན་པ་མུན་གནག་མུན་པར་བྱེད་པས་གནག་པར་གྱུར་པ་གང་དག་ཡིན་པ་དེ་དག་ཀྱང་དེའི་ཚེ་ན་སྣང་བ་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོས་ཁྱབ་པར་གྱུར་ ནས། །
so great was its strength that darkness everywhere, even the pitch-black darkness of dark places dark from never knowing the light of the sun and moon, was filled with a vast light.

འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་འཇིག་རྟེན་གྱི་བར་གང་ན་ཉི་མ་དང་ཟླ་བ་འདི་ལྟར་རྫུ་འཕྲུལ་ཆེ་བ། འདི་ལྟར་མཐུ་ཆེ་བ་འདི་གཉིས་ཀྱི་འོད་དག་ཉམས་སུ་མི་མྱོང་བའི་མུན་པ་མུན་གནག་མུན་པར་བྱེད་པས།
so great was this miraculous manifestation, it was as if the sun and moon shone in the gulf between worlds. so great was its strength that darkness everywhere,

དེ་ཟླ་བ་བརྒྱད་དམ་དགུ་འདས་ཏེ་ཁྱེའུ་གཟུགས་བཟང་བ། བལྟ་ན་སྡུག་པ། མཛེས་པ། གསལ་བ་གསེར་གྱི་མདོག་འདྲ་བ། མགོ་གདུགས་ལྟ་བུ་དང་ལྡན་པ། ལག་པ་རིང་བ། འཕྲལ་བའི་དབྱེས་ཆེ་བ། སྨིན་མ་འཇར་བ། སྣའི་གཟེངས་མཐོ་བ་ཞིག་བཙས་སོ། །
after eight or nine months had passed, a boy was born, well proportioned, pleasing to the eye, handsome, radiant, with a golden complexion, a head shaped well like a parasol, long arms, a broad forehead, eyebrows that met, and a prominent nose.

གཅད་པ་དང་། དྲལ་བ་དང་། དབུག་པ་དང་། གནས་ལྔ་པོ་འདི་ལྟ་སྟེ། རྒྱང་ནས་འཕོག་པ་དང་། སྒྲ་གྲགས་པར་འཕོག་པ་དང་། གནད་དུ་འཕོག་པ་དང་། མི་འཆོར་བར་འཕོག་པ་དང་། ཚབས་ཆེ་བ་
slash, quarter, pierce, and strike in five ways—striking from a distance, striking a target using acoustic location, striking a fatal blow, striking without hesitation, and striking forcefully.
