আমি ইতিপূর ্ বে আদমকে নির ্ দেশ দিয়েছিলাম । অতঃপর সে ভুলে গিয়েছিল এবং আমি তার মধ ্ যে দৃঢ়তা পাইনি ।

and assuredly we covenanted with adam aforetime , then he forgat , and we found not in him steadiness .

and of them are some who covenanted with saying : if he giveth of his grace , we will surely give alms and we will surely become of the righteous .
আর ওদের মধ ্ যে কেউ-কেউ আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র কাছে অঙ ্ গীকার করেছিল -- ''তিনি যদি তাঁর করুণাভান্ডার থেকে আমাদের দান করেন তবে আমরা নিশ্চয়ই সদকা-খয়রাত করবো আর আমরা অবশ্যই হবো সৎকর্মীদের মধ্যেকার।’’

and yet they had already covenanted with allah not to turn their backs , and a covenant with allah must ( surely ) be answered for .
অথচ তারা পূর ্ বে আল ্ লাহর সাথে অঙ ্ গীকার করেছিল যে , তারা পৃষ ্ ঠ প ্ রদর ্ শন করবে না । আল ্ লাহর অঙ ্ গীকার সম ্ পর ্ কে জিজ ্ ঞাসা করা হবে ।

and they said : magician ! supplicate thy lord for us for that which he hath covenanted with thee ; verily we shall let ourselves be guided .
আর তারা বলেছিল -- ''ওহে জাদুকর! তোমার প্রভুকে আমাদের জন্য ডাকো যেমন তিনি তোমার কাছে অংগীকার করেছিলেন, আমরা অবশ্যই তখন সৎপথাবলন্বী হব।’’

কেমন ক ’ রে মুশরিকদের জন ্ য আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র সঙ ্ গে ও তাঁর রসূলের সঙ ্ গে চুক ্ তি হতে পারে , তাদের সম ্ পর ্ কে ছাড়া যাদের সঙ ্ গে তোমরা চুক ্ তি করেছিলে পবিত ্ র মসজিদের নিকটে ? সুতরাং যতক ্ ষণ তারা তোমাদের প ্ রতি কায়েম থাকবে ততক ্ ষণ তোমরাও তাদের প ্ রতি কায়েম রইবে । নিঃসন ্ দেহ আল ্ লাহ ্ ধর ্ মপরায়ণদের ভালোবাসেন ।

the hand of allah is over their hands . then whosoever breaks his pledge , breaks only to his own harm , and whosoever fulfills what he has covenanted with allah , he will bestow on him a great reward .
নিঃসন ্ দেহ যারা তোমার কাছে আনুগত ্ যের শপথ গ ্ রহণ করে তারা নিশ ্ চয় আনুগত ্ যের শপথ নিচ ্ ছে আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র কাছে , -- আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র হাত ছিল তাদের হাতের উপরে । সুতরাং যে কেউ ভঙ ্ গ করে সে তো তবে ভঙ ্ গ করছে তার নিজেরই বিরুদ ্ ধে । আর যে কেউ পূরণ করে যে ওয়াদা সে আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র সঙ ্ গে করেছে তা , তাকে তবে তিনি প ্ রদান করবেন এক বিরাট প ্ রতিদান ।

and fulfil the covenant of allahs when ye have covenanted , and violate not the oaths after the ratification thereof , and surely ye have appointed allah a surety over you. verily allah knoweth that which ye do :
আর আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র অংগীকার পূরণ করো যখনি তোমরা কোনো অংগীকার করে থাক , আর প ্ রতিজ ্ ঞাগুলো ভঙ ্ গ করো না সেগুলোর দৃঢ়ীকরণের পরে , অথচ তোমরা আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ কে তোমাদের মধ ্ যে জামিন করেছ । নিঃসন ্ দেহ আল ্ লাহ ্ জানেন যা তোমরা করছ ।

among the muslims are the men who have proved true what they had covenanted with allah ; so among them is one who has already fulfilled his vow , and among them is one still waiting ; and they have not changed a bit .
মুমিনদের মধ ্ যে এমন লোক রয়েছে যারা আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র সঙ ্ গে তারা যা ওয়াদা করেছে সে-সন ্ বন ্ ধে সত ্ যপরায়ণতা অবলন ্ বন করে , সেজন ্ যে তাদের মধ ্ যে কেউ-কেউ তার ব ্ রত পূর ্ ণ করেছে , আর তাদের মধ ্ যে কেউ-কেউ প ্ রতীক ্ ষা করছে , আর তারা কোনো বদলানো বদলায় নি , --

and fulfill the covenant of allah ( bai 'a : pledge for islam ) when you have covenanted , and break not the oaths after you have confirmed them , and indeed you have appointed allah your surety . verily !
আর আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ র অংগীকার পূরণ করো যখনি তোমরা কোনো অংগীকার করে থাক , আর প ্ রতিজ ্ ঞাগুলো ভঙ ্ গ করো না সেগুলোর দৃঢ়ীকরণের পরে , অথচ তোমরা আল ্ লাহ ্ ‌ কে তোমাদের মধ ্ যে জামিন করেছ । নিঃসন ্ দেহ আল ্ লাহ ্ জানেন যা তোমরা করছ ।
