herr präsident, verehrte kolleginnen und kollegen! in meinem beitrag zum bericht von frau lucas – der ich für ihre ausgezeichnete arbeit danken möchte – wollte ich einen wesentlichen aspekt der beziehungen zwischen den beiden großen handelsgebieten hervorheben: die notwendigkeit, sich an die regeln zu halten, was im handelsbereich die grundsätze der welthandelsorganisation und die daraus abgeleiteten vereinbarungen sind, im politischen und sozialen bereich jedoch die einhaltung der grundlegenden menschenrechte betrifft.
mr president, ladies and gentlemen, in my contribution to the report by mrs lucas – whom i should like to thank for the excellent work that she has carried out – i wanted to emphasise a fundamental aspect of the relationship between these two large trade areas: the need to obey the rules which in the field of trade are indeed the principles of the world trade organisation and the agreements that derive from it, but which in the political and social context relate to respect for basic human rights.
