it looks like there is no "use of uninitialised value of size 8" in debug build.

you will see i am just drawing an uninitialised image to the screen but its the same behaviour that i see with my app and a subset of the code i use.

i think i've fixed the x11 issues. it was an uninitialised variable, as usual. i missed this only testing with example 2 because it serializes and initialises the variable.

i see approximately a thousand messages “conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s)” and a lot of “use of uninitialised value of size 8”.
