and jesus said, are ye also yet without understanding?
ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܤܬܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ

and all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
ܘܬܡܝܗܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܫܡܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܒܚܟܡܬܗ ܘܒܦܬܓܡܘܗܝ

consider what i say; and the lord give thee understanding in all things.
ܐܤܬܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܢܬܠ ܠܟ ܡܪܢ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܒܟܠ ܡܕܡ

ܘܕܩܝܡܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܚܘܒܐ ܘܠܐ ܫܝܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܗܘܢ

for if i pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
ܐܢ ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܗܘܝܬ ܡܨܠܐ ܒܠܫܢܐ ܪܘܚܝ ܗܘ ܡܨܠܝܐ ܡܕܥܝ ܕܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܦܐܪܝܢ ܗܘ

desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
ܒܕܒܥܘ ܠܡܗܘܐ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܕܢܡܘܤܐ ܟܕ ܠܐ ܡܤܬܟܠܝܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܬܚܪܝܢ

and the peace of god, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through christ jesus.
ܘܫܠܡܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܕܪܒ ܡܢ ܟܠ ܡܕܥ ܢܢܛܪ ܠܒܘܬܟܘܢ ܘܡܕܥܝܟܘܢ ܒܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ

having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of god through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
ܘܚܫܘܟܝܢ ܒܡܕܥܝܗܘܢ ܘܢܘܟܪܝܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܚܝܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܝܬ ܒܗܘܢ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܡܛܠ ܥܘܝܪܘܬ ܠܒܗܘܢ

the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
ܘܢܢܗܪܢ ܥܝܢܐ ܕܠܒܘܬܟܘܢ ܕܬܕܥܘܢ ܡܢܘ ܤܒܪܐ ܕܩܪܝܢܗ ܘܡܢܘ ܥܘܬܪܐ ܕܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܝܪܬܘܬܗ ܒܩܕܝܫܐ

here is wisdom. let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred threescore and six.
ܗܪܟܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܗܘܢܐ ܢܚܫܒܝܘܗܝ ܠܡܢܝܢܐ ܕܚܝܘܬܐ ܡܢܝܢܐ ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܒܪܢܫܐ ܫܬܡܐܐ ܘܫܬܝܢ ܘܫܬ

and he saith unto them, are ye so without understanding also? do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܛܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܢ ܠܒܪ ܥܐܠ ܠܒܪ ܐܢܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܡܤܝܒ ܠܗ

and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
ܘܕܢܪܚܡܝܘܗܝ ܐܢܫ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܪܥܝܢܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܢܦܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܐ ܘܕܢܪܚܡ ܩܪܝܒܗ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܗ ܝܬܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܩܕܐ ܘܕܒܚܐ

and we know that the son of god is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his son jesus christ. this is the true god, and eternal life.
