all’epoca non avremmo pensato che forse la risposta giusta fosse un’altra, una terza,come emerge con evidenza da studi molecolari ancora più recenti e completi ( schlumpberger & renner 2012). da questi ultimi studi risulta che espostoa e vatricania e altri generi della tribù trichocereeae ( anderson 2001; 2005; 2011; hunt et al. 2006) o sottotribù trichocereinae ( nyffeler & eggli 2010), assieme alle specie incluse nell’attuale concetto di echinopsis sensu lato (anderson 2001, 2005, 2011; hunt et. al 2006), costituirebbero un unico clade monofiletico in echinopsis, ben supportato (100% bootstrap suport).
