kaptan, the king of gods and the ruler of the heavens, and his wife, magwayen, the goddess of the ancient seas and the one ferrying the souls to solad - the netherworld - were the most loved and respected deities by the mortals. however, their eldest, the prince of gods, was not so adored, for he was second to the nether king himself as the most fearsome god of all. he is the one who is dreaded by humans during his arrival: he whose three pairs of large silver wings flap themselves to create typhoons, he whose entire body crackled of electricity, he whose voice was the thunder itself - saragangka bagyo, the god of storms. one day, when the prince of gods was bored, he decided to fly off to a nearby mountain, thinking what to do during his day-off. then, he saw animals of various shapes and sizes, scurrying away from him. an idea struck him. "animals of the mountains!" he announced in his thunderous voice. the animals stopped and paid attention to him, fearing that he would punish them if they didn't. "gather your tribes and we shall play a game. whatever tribe wins will be honored by the gods as the strongest, most enduring amongst you that everyone must pay homage whenever they see your home." everyone started to chatter. this was the prince of gods they were talking about. feared or not, he never went back from his words. pride swelled in their hearts that many wanted to volunteer - without even fully knowing what saragangka bagyo will do to them. the tribe of boars volunteered to go first. "all you have to do is survive my wrath!" the prince grinned from ear to ear, rubbing his hands, making tiny lightning bolts crackle out from his palms. just a few seconds afterwards, the boars sprinted toward the nearest cave, but the god of storms found them and knocked the cave down with his bare fists before the tribe of boars could even get out. before the others could even run, saragangka bagyo appeared in front of the animals, challenging the poor creatures again. "who's next?" he asked, his voice boomed. "you all know that i'm not going to stop until one of your tribes defeat me!" after hearing this, a barely unseen tribe made a plan to win the game of the god of storms. if they do, they'll be respected by all the other creatures in the forest. but before their turn, they must observe the others first. the mighty eagles went next, but their might and pride didn't help them getting wiped out by the prince of god's hurricane. then the fishes of the stream tried to hide under a boulder, but saragangka bagyo carried the huge rock, and electrocuted the poor aquatic dwellers. the god of storms was eased from boredom, but there must be a winner to his game. "who's next?" he questioned, voice never faltering, but all the remaining animals trembled. until little voices called out, "we're next, great prince." it was the tribe of ants, prepared for the worst of the worst. the crowd laughed at them first, but saragangka bagyo silenced them all with one piercing gaze. "then you must be put to the test," the prince smirked. the ants hid under the soil, and the god of storms poured the rain, but the ants dug deeper into the ground. saragangka bagyo thought they were drowned, but he and the rest of the onlookers were surprised to see the ants afloat on leaves after the rain! saraganka bagyo was impressed, and told the mortals to respect the ant's mound as they respect gnomes who give treasures. the prince also gave the ants antennae, so that they can detect his upcoming storm, whenever he was brewing one.
