solo nell'anno 1878 data l'importanza del culto, si pensò a trasformare la chiesa aggiungendo la navatella del crocifisso, che fu costruita con forte contribuzione del dott. sebastiano nicolosi zappalà, e nel 1884 si costruì l'altra consimile dal lato opposto, adornandole di tre altari di marmo, e cioè : l'altare maggiore, quello del sacramento, e quello di s. giuseppe oggi del crocifisso. l'artistica porticina del tabernacolo, raffigurante la cena, fu fatta da francesco pennisi da acireale nel 1876.
