when we told your mother what we relate :
« ወደናትህ በልብ የሚፈስን ነገር ባሳወቅን ጊዜ ፡ ፡

the future depends on what we do in the present
ጥገኛ

we are indeed able to show you what we promise them .
እኛም የምናስፈራራቸውን ነገር ልናሳይህ በእርግጥ ቻዮች ነን ፡ ፡

surely we are able to show you what we warn them against .
እኛም የምናስፈራራቸውን ነገር ልናሳይህ በእርግጥ ቻዮች ነን ፡ ፡

what we recite to you consists of signs and wise admonition .
ይህ ከተዓምራቶችና ጥበብን ከያዘው ተግሳጽ ሲኾን በአንተ ላይ እናነበዋለን ፡ ፡

and indeed , we are able to show you what we have promised them .
እኛም የምናስፈራራቸውን ነገር ልናሳይህ በእርግጥ ቻዮች ነን ፡ ፡

being ungrateful for what we have given them ! let them enjoy .
በሰጠናቸው ጸጋ ሊክዱና ሊጠቃቀሙ ( ያጋራሉ ) ፡ ፡ ወደፊትም ( የሚጠብቃቸውን ) ያውቃሉ ፡ ፡

and most surely we are well able to make you see what we threaten them with .
እኛም የምናስፈራራቸውን ነገር ልናሳይህ በእርግጥ ቻዮች ነን ፡ ፡

disbelieving in what we have given them . enjoy , but you shall soon know .
በሰጠናቸው ጸጋ ሊክዱ ( ያጋራሉ ) ፡ ፡ ተጣቀሙም ፤ በእርግጥም ( መጨረሻችሁን ) ወደፊት ታውቃላችሁ ፡ ፡

or show you what we have promised them , for indeed we hold them in our power .
ወይም ያንን የቀጠርናቸውን ብናሳይህ እኛ በእነርሱ ( ቅጣት ) ላይ ቻይዎች ነን ፡ ፡

or show you some of what we have promised them . they are certainly well within our power .
ወይም ያንን የቀጠርናቸውን ብናሳይህ እኛ በእነርሱ ( ቅጣት ) ላይ ቻይዎች ነን ፡ ፡

' this is what we have been seeking ' said he , and they retraced their footsteps
( ሙሳም ) ይህ እንፈልገው የነበርነው ነው አለው ፡ ፡ በፈለጎቻቸውም ላይ እየተከተሉ ተመለሱ ፡ ፡

" this is what we rehearse unto thee of the signs and the message of wisdom . "
ይህ ከተዓምራቶችና ጥበብን ከያዘው ተግሳጽ ሲኾን በአንተ ላይ እናነበዋለን ፡ ፡

have they not seen what we have created from the labor of our own hands ? we have given them cattle .
እኛ እጆቻችን ( ኃይሎቻችን ) ከሠሩት ለእነርሱ እንስሳዎችን መፍጠራችንን አያውቁምን ? እነርሱም ለእርሷ ባለ መብቶች ናቸው ፡ ፡

showing no gratitude for what we have given them . enjoy yourselves awhile ; but soon you will know !
( የሚያጋሩትም ) በሰጠናቸው ሊክዱ ነው ፡ ፡ ተጠቀሙም ወደ ፊትም ( የሚደርስባችሁን ) በእርግጥ ታውቃላችሁ ፡ ፡

and abu karim says we should improve what we already have instead of importing a western-style democracy:
አቡ ካሪም የምዕራባውያን የዴሞክራሲ ዘዬ ከውጭ ከምናመጣ ያለንን ማሻሻል ይገባናል ይላል፤

he said , ‘ that is what we were after ! ’ so they returned , retracing their footsteps .
( ሙሳም ) ይህ እንፈልገው የነበርነው ነው አለው ፡ ፡ በፈለጎቻቸውም ላይ እየተከተሉ ተመለሱ ፡ ፡

return to your father and say , ' father , your son has committed a theft . we testify only to what we know .
« ወደ አባታችሁ ተመለሱ በሉትም ፡ - አባታችን ሆይ ! ልጅህ ሰረቀ ፡ ፡ ባወቅነውም ነገር እንጂ አልመሰከርንም ፡ ፡ ሩቁንም ነገር ( ምስጢሩን ) ዐዋቂዎች አልነበርንም ፡ ፡

moses said : " that is what we were looking for . " so the two turned back , retracing their footsteps ,
( ሙሳም ) ይህ እንፈልገው የነበርነው ነው አለው ፡ ፡ በፈለጎቻቸውም ላይ እየተከተሉ ተመለሱ ፡ ፡

[ moses ] said , " that is what we were seeking . " so they returned , following their footprints .
( ሙሳም ) ይህ እንፈልገው የነበርነው ነው አለው ፡ ፡ በፈለጎቻቸውም ላይ እየተከተሉ ተመለሱ ፡ ፡
