the cape floristic region (cfr) is an internationally recognized biodiversity hotspot with a high degree of endemism. the lowland vegetation types (including renosterveld, strandveld, lowland fynbos) of the cfr are highly transformed due to extensive agriculture and urbanisation, and once contiguous habitats are reduced to tiny fragments 'isolated' in 'seas' of transformed land.
