we have coexisted with all sorts of destructive behaviors, from workaholism to alcoholism and other addictions.

the main purpose of this theoretical paper is to present the causes of work addiction (special emphasis will be placed on the behavioral mechanisms of workaholism).

despite the fact that workaholism has been cited as one of the largest mental health problems of the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries (it is estimated that about 26% of workers suffer from this disease; howerton, 2004), the subject itself has been downplayed in the professional literature, presumably because of the difficulty in defining the term “workaholism”.
