भार तथा मापन मानक अधिनियम 1976 तथा भार और मापन मान अधिनियम 1985 नामक अधिनियम मुख्यतः यह सुनिश्चित करने पर संकेंद्रित हैं कि व्यापार अथवा वाणिज्य , औद्योगिक उत्पादन के लिए अथवा मापन स्वास्थ्य के संरक्षण और सुरक्षा के लिए प्रयुक्त सभी भार अथवा मापन यथार्थ तथा विश्वसनीय हैं ताकि प्रयोक्ताओं को उनके निष्पादन तथा गुणवत्ता की गारंटी प्राप्त हो तथा उपभोक्ता को वह सही मात्रा प्राप्त हो जिसके लिए वह भुगतान करता है ।
