als u alsa gebruikt kunt u de uitvoer met xine naar een specifiek apparaat sturen. stel een ~/.asoundrc (alleen voor gebruiker) of /etc/asound.conf (systeemwijd) bestand in die als alias van uw hardware-apparaten dient en vul die alias in in het vak "device used for stereo output:" bij tabblad 'xine-engine' daarnaast kunt u rechtstreeks het alsa-apparaat (hw:0,0 of hw:1,0 etc.) invoeren. als u de laatste (alternatieve) methode kiest, onthoud dat alsa's overeenkomende plugnogiets (dus plughw:0,0 of plughw:1,0 etc.) routing door alsa-libs de voorkeur geniet.
