તેમણે ભારતીય વિષયોમાં યુરોપી તકનિકો ઉપયોગ કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કર્યો હતો. તેમણે ભારતીય ચિત્રો અને બંગાળી નવજાગૃતિ આંદોલનની શૈલીઓ પણ અજમાવી. તેમણે ભારે તૈલ રંગોની છાંટ ટાળી અને ભૂખરા રંગોનો પ્રયોગ ઓછો કર્યો હતો. તેમણે કલકત્તામાં અભ્યાસ કર્યો હોવાથી તેમના પર નંદલાલ બોઝ અને અભાનિન્દ્રનાથ ટાગોરની અસર હતી. તેમણે વોશ શૈલીનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો જે પાછળથી તેમને ઓળખ આપતી જાણીતી થઇ. તેઓ ત્રણ દાયકા સુધી ગુજરાતના સૌરાષ્ટ્ર વિસ્તારમાં રહ્યા તેથી તેમની કળામાં આ વિસ્તારની સંસ્કૃતિ અને લોકોની અસર આવી. તેમણે કચ્છ અને સૌરાષ્ટ્રના પક્ષીઓના પુસ્તકમાં પણ રેખાચિત્રો બનાવ્યા હતા.[1][2][3]

he represented the bhavnagar constituency of gujarat for five terms of the parliament. he is a member of the bharatiya janata party (bjp), and served as the president of the state unit of bjp from 1998 to 2006. he did not contested in 2014 general elections.[1]
તેમણે ભાવનગર મતવિસ્તારનું લોક સભામાં પાંચ વખત પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કર્યું હતું. તેઓ ભારતીય જનતા પાર્ટી (ભાજપ)ના સભ્ય છે અને ૧૯૯૮થી ૨૦૦૪ સુધી પ્રદેશ પ્રમુખ રહ્યા હતા. તેમણે ૨૦૧૪ લોક સભાની ચૂંટણી લડી ન હતી.
