then moses asked aaron, "what made you not follow me when you saw them in error?
(موسٰی علیہ السلام نے) فرمایا: اے ہارون! تم کو کس چیز نے روکے رکھا جب تم نے دیکھا کہ یہ گمراہ ہو رہے ہیں،

and how should i fear what you have associated when you yourselves are not afraid that you have associated with allah that which he did not send down for it upon you an authority. which of the two parties is more deserving of safety, if you know?
اور آخر میں تمہارے ٹھیرائے ہوئے شریکوں سے کیسے ڈروں جبکہ تم اللہ کے ساتھ ان چیزوں کو خدائی میں شریک بناتے ہوئے نہیں ڈرتے جن کے لیے اس نے تم پر کوئی سند نازل نہیں کی ہے؟ ہم دونوں فریقوں میں سے کون زیادہ بے خوفی و اطمینان کا مستحق ہے؟ بتاؤ اگر تم کچھ علم رکھتے ہو

and not say, when evil befalls them on account of that which their hands forwarded: 'our lord, why did you not send a messenger to us so that we might follow your verses and so that we might be among the believers'
(اور شاید ہم رسول نہ بھیجتے) اگر یہ بات نہ ہوتی کہ اگر ان کے کرتوتوں کی پاداش میں انہیں کوئی مصیبت پہنچے تو وہ یہ نہ کہنے لگ جائیں کہ اے ہمارے پروردگار تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا تاکہ ہم تیری آیتوں کی پیروی کرتے اور ہم ایمان لانے والوں میں سے ہوتے۔

and if we had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "our lord, why did you not send to us a messenger so we could have followed your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?"
اور اگر ہم اس (رسول) سے پہلے انہیں عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو یہ کہتے اے ہمارے پروردگار! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا؟ کہ ہم ذلیل و رسوا ہونے سے پہلے تیری آیتوں کی پیروی کرتے۔

had we destroyed them with a punishment before it, they would have surely said, ‘our lord! why did you not send us an apostle so that we might have followed your signs before we were abased and disgraced?’
اور اگر ہم اس (رسول) سے پہلے انہیں عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو یہ کہتے اے ہمارے پروردگار! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا؟ کہ ہم ذلیل و رسوا ہونے سے پہلے تیری آیتوں کی پیروی کرتے۔

and in case disaster comes upon them for what they have done themselves, they should say: "o lord, why did you not send an apostle to us that we should have followed your commands, and been with those who are believers;"
(اور شاید ہم رسول نہ بھیجتے) اگر یہ بات نہ ہوتی کہ اگر ان کے کرتوتوں کی پاداش میں انہیں کوئی مصیبت پہنچے تو وہ یہ نہ کہنے لگ جائیں کہ اے ہمارے پروردگار تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا تاکہ ہم تیری آیتوں کی پیروی کرتے اور ہم ایمان لانے والوں میں سے ہوتے۔

(we did so) lest a calamity might seize them because of the misdeeds they committed whereafter they would say: "our lord, why did you not send a messenger to us that we follow your revelation and become among those who believe?"
(اور یہ ہم نے اس لیے کیا کہ) کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ اُن کے اپنے کیے کرتوتوں کی بدولت کوئی مصیبت جب اُن پر آئے تو وہ کہیں "اے پروردگار، تُو نے کیوں نہ ہماری طرف کوئی رسول بھیجا کہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے اور اہلِ ایمان میں سے ہوتے"
