20- وهناك عائق مشترك أمام جميع نُهج نقل التكنولوجيا لإبطاء تدهور الأراضي يتمثل في عدم التشاور مع أصحاب المصلحة وسقوط التكنولوجيا المقترحة بالتالي فريسة للمسلّمات التقليدية، مثل القول بأن تدهور الأراضي قد بلغ فعلاً نقطة اللاعودة، وأن المزارعين لا يدركون عمليات التدهور إدراكاً كافياً، وأن الممارسات التقليدية لا تتغير وإنما تضمحل، وأن نقص الموارد المالية يحدّ من رغبة المزارعين في الاستثمار في الأراضي ومن قدرتهم على ذلك، وأن المؤسسات المحلية تعوق تدابير تحسين الأراضي بدلاً من تشجيعها، وأن المزارعين عاجزون عن التكيّف مع الظروف البيئة والاجتماعية - الاقتصادية المتغيِّرة دون تدخُّل خارجي ونقل للحلول (التي لم تخضع لاختبارات كافية).
