ותרד הגרן ותעש ככל אשר צותה חמותה׃
and she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.

ונחשב לכם תרומתכם כדגן מן הגרן וכמלאה מן היקב׃
and this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshingfloor, and as the fulness of the winepress.

ויאמר אל יושעך יהוה מאין אושיעך המן הגרן או מן היקב׃
and he said, if the lord do not help thee, whence shall i help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

ויבא דויד עד ארנן ויבט ארנן וירא את דויד ויצא מן הגרן וישתחו לדויד אפים ארצה׃
and as david came to ornan, ornan looked and saw david, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to david with his face to the ground.

ורחצת וסכת ושמת שמלתך עליך וירדתי הגרן אל תודעי לאיש עד כלתו לאכל ולשתות׃
wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

ותשכב מרגלתו עד הבקר ותקם בטרום יכיר איש את רעהו ויאמר אל יודע כי באה האשה הגרן׃
and she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. and he said, let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.

ויאמר דויד אל ארנן תנה לי מקום הגרן ואבנה בו מזבח ליהוה בכסף מלא תנהו לי ותעצר המגפה מעל העם׃
then david said to ornan, grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that i may build an altar therein unto the lord: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.

ויאמר ארונה מדוע בא אדני המלך אל עבדו ויאמר דוד לקנות מעמך את הגרן לבנות מזבח ליהוה ותעצר המגפה מעל העם׃
and araunah said, wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? and david said, to buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the lord, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

ויאמר המלך אל ארונה לא כי קנו אקנה מאותך במחיר ולא אעלה ליהוה אלהי עלות חנם ויקן דוד את הגרן ואת הבקר בכסף שקלים חמשים׃
and the king said unto araunah, nay; but i will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will i offer burnt offerings unto the lord my god of that which doth cost me nothing. so david bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
