that , because allah ! he is the truth , and he quickeneth the dead , and verily he is over everything potent .
« ذلك » المذكور من بدء خلق الإنسان إلى آخر إحياء الأرض « بأن » بسبب أن « الله هو الحق » الثابت الدائم « وأنه يحيى الموتى وأنه على كل شيء قدير » .

look then at the effects of allah 's mercy : what wise he quickeneth the earth after the death thereof . verily .
« فانظر إلى أثر » وفي قراءة آثار « رحمة الله » أي نعمته بالمطر « كيف يحيي الأرض بعد موتها » أي يبسها بأن تنبت « إن ذلك لمحيي الموتى وهو على كل شيءٍ قدير » .

he it is who quickeneth and giveth death . when he ordaineth a thing , he saith unto it only : be ! and it is .
« هو الذي يحيى ويُميت فإذا قضى أمرا » أراد إيجاد شيء « فإنما يقول له كن فيكون » بضم النون وفتحها بتقدير أن ، أي يوجد عقب الإرادة التي هي معنى القول المذكور .

and of his signs is that thou beholdest the earth lowly , and when we send down thereon water , it stirreth to life and groweth . verily he who quickeneth is the quickener of the dead .
« ومن آياته أنك ترى الأرض خاشعةً » يابسة لا نبات فيها « فإذا أنزلنا عليها الماء اهتزت » تحركت « وربت » انتفخت وعلت « إن الذي أحياها لمحيي الموتى إنه على كل شيء قدير » .

and in the alternation of night and day and that which allah sendeth down of provision from the heaven and thereby quickeneth the earth after the death thereof and the turning about of the winds , are signs unto a people who reflect .
« و » في « اختلاف الليل والنهار » ذهابهما ومجيئهما « وما أنزل الله من السماء من رزق » مطر لأنه سبب الرزق « فأحيا به الأرض بعد موتها وتصريف الريح » تقليبها مرة جنوباً ومرة شمالاً وباردة وحارة « آيات لقوم يعقلون » الدليل فيؤمنون .

he bringeth forth the living from the lifeless , and he bringeth forth the lifeless from the living , and he quickeneth the earth after the death thereof ; and even so shall ye be brought forth .
« يُخرج الحي من الميت » كالإنسان من النطفة والطائر من البيضة « ويخرج الميت » النطفة والبيضة « من الحي ويحيي الأرض » بالنبات « بعد موتها » أي يبسها « وكذلك » الإخراج « تَخرجون » من القبور بالبناء للفاعل والمفعول .

o ye who believe ! answer allah and the apostle when he calleth you to that which quickeneth you , and know that verily allah interposeth between a man and his heart , and that verily unto him ye all shall be gathered .
« يا أيها الذين آمنوا استجيبوا لله وللرسول » بالطاعة « إذا دعاكم لما يحييكم » من أمر الدين أنه سبب الحياة الأبدية « واعلموا أن الله يحول بين المرء وقلبه » فلا يستطيع أن يؤمن أو يكفر إلا بإرادته « وأنه إليه تُحشرون » فيجازيكم بأعمالكم .

o ye who believe ! obey allah , and the messenger when he calleth you to that which quickeneth you , and know that allah cometh in between the man and his own heart , and that he it is unto whom ye will be gathered .
« يا أيها الذين آمنوا استجيبوا لله وللرسول » بالطاعة « إذا دعاكم لما يحييكم » من أمر الدين أنه سبب الحياة الأبدية « واعلموا أن الله يحول بين المرء وقلبه » فلا يستطيع أن يؤمن أو يكفر إلا بإرادته « وأنه إليه تُحشرون » فيجازيكم بأعمالكم .

and wert thou to ask them : who sendeth down water from the heaven , and therewith quickeneth the earth after the death thereof ? they would surely say : allah . say thou : all praise unto allah !
« ولئن » لام قسم « سألتهم من نزَّل من السماء ماءً فأحيا به الأرض من بعد موتها ليقولنَّ الله » فكيف يشركون به « قل » لهم « الحمد لله » على ثبوت الحجة عليكم « بل أكثرهم لا يعقلون » تناقضهم في ذلك .
