right a right is a person's entitlement to something, such as legal, social, or freedom a negative right is a duty from others to not interfere with an individual's activities whe possess that right, whereas a positive right is the duty of others to allow another person to do whatever he or she needs to follow or perform freely. rights are considered normative rules about what a person is allowed to possess. a moral right (also referred to as human right) is an entitlement that every human being anywhere in this world possesses, such as the right to public assembly, right to work, freedom of expression, and others. it is universal by the mere virtue of being a human being. aune (2014), in his book, discussed german philosopher immanuel kant's basis of moral rights on a categorical imperative, meaning, it is considered a command addressed to individuals who may or may not follow such command. (e.g., do not enter the emergency room. drop your weapon.) kant gave two ways of prescribing this basic moral principle (1) a person should not do something unless you are willing to have everyone do the same, and (2) a person should not use others as a means for advancing his or her interests; a person must also respect and develop other people's ability to choose and decide for themselves freely. on the other hand, a legal right is a right given upon by law to find resolutions or remedies to a conflict. in business, this right is often used to empower a company to ad in a manner that others will have to follow or act in a certain way toward the company contractual rights and duties should be considered a premise in operating an enterprise. contractual rights are the rights that a company is benefiting from a contract, and contractual obligations is a duty that the company is expected to perform under the contract.
