זאת הארץ הנשארת כל גלילות הפלשתים וכל הגשורי׃
this is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the philistines, and all geshuri,

ויער יהוה על יהורם את רוח הפלשתים והערבים אשר על יד כושים׃
moreover the lord stirred up against jehoram the spirit of the philistines, and of the arabians, that were near the ethiopians:

וירדו כל ישראל הפלשתים ללטוש איש את מחרשתו ואת אתו ואת קרדמו ואת מחרשתו׃
but all the israelites went down to the philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.

ויראו הפלשתים כי אמרו בא אלהים אל המחנה ויאמרו אוי לנו כי לא היתה כזאת אתמול שלשם׃
and the philistines were afraid, for they said, god is come into the camp. and they said, woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.

וישאל דוד ביהוה לאמר האעלה אל פלשתים התתנם בידי ויאמר יהוה אל דוד עלה כי נתן אתן את הפלשתים בידך׃
and david inquired of the lord, saying, shall i go up to the philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? and the lord said unto david, go up: for i will doubtless deliver the philistines into thine hand.

וירץ דוד ויעמד אל הפלשתי ויקח את חרבו וישלפה מתערה וימתתהו ויכרת בה את ראשו ויראו הפלשתים כי מת גבורם וינסו׃
therefore david ran, and stood upon the philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. and when the philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

הפלשתים, שלא הצליחו לפתור את החידה, איימו על אשת שמשון שישרפו את בית הוריה אם לא תגלה להם את פתרון החידה.
"samson said to them,:"if you had not plowed with my heifer,:you would not have solved my riddle.
