is afrikaans a dying language? yes. i believe afrikaans is a dying language. south africa is a nation which is awakening into consciousness. afrikaans is very much associated with racism and oppression. this now affects how afrikaans is seen to most black people. many black people dislike the language because of its use. it is a constant reminder of those days of apartheid. the reasoning i’m basing the death of afrikaans to black people is because black people make up the most of this country’s population. so if the majority agrees with the fall of the language then it can be considered as dying. afrikaans is spoken in the coloured community very much also and that’s one of the reasons it still alive. i am sure they don’t want the language to die because they have so much love and compassion for it. white people still designate with the language and most of them speak it. however white people make up a minority of the population. afrikaans is dying because the majority see it as an oppressive language. it is also seen as a white man’s language and also a racist’s language. there was also a #afrikaansmustfall hashtag on twitter which people we saying #afrikaans must fall at rhodes university and stellenbosch university. correct grammar on translations
