« والسماء ذات الرجع » المطر لعوده كل حين .

thus will i make mount seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.
فاجعل جبل سعير خرابا ومقفرا واستأصل منه الذاهب والآئب.

see they not , then , that it returneth no saying unto them and possesseth for them neither hurt nor use ?
( أفلا يرون أ ) أن مخففة من الثقيلة واسمها محذوف أي أنه ( لا يرجع ) العجل ( إليهم قولاً ) أي لا يرد لهم جوابا ( ولا يملك لهم ضرا ) أي دفعه ( ولا نفعا ) أي جلبه أي فكيف يتخذ إلها ؟

they said : we shall by no means cease to be assiduous to it until there returneth to us musa .
« قالوا لن نبرح » نزال « عليه عاكفين » على عبادته مقيمين « حتى يرجع إلينا موسى » .

the wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
الريح تذهب الى الجنوب وتدور الى الشمال. تذهب دائرة دورانا والى مداراتها ترجع الريح.

alexander returneth to dust, the dust is earth of earth we make loam, and why of that loam whereto he was converted, might they not stop a beer-barrel?
أليكساندر تحول إلى رمـاد ، والرماد هو تراب من التراب نصنع الطين أليس من الممكن لذلك الطين أن نصنع منـه سدادة لبرميــل خمـر ؟

and if two parties of the believers fall to mutual fighting , then make reconciliation between the twain . then if one of them rebelleth against the other , fight that party which rebelleth till it returneth unto the affair of allah ; then if it returneth , make reconciliation between the twain with justice and be equitable ; verily allah loveth the equitable .
« وإن طائفتان من المؤمنين » الآية ، نزلت في قضية هي أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ركب حمارا ومر على ابن أبيّ فبال الحمار فسد ابن أبيّ أنفه فقال ابن رواحة : والله لبول حماره أطيب ريحا من مسكك فكان بين قوميهما ضرب بالأيدي والنعال والسعف « اقتتلوا » جمع نظرا إلى المعنى لأن كل طائفة جماعة ، وقرئ اقتتلتا « فأصلحوا بينهما » ثنى نظرا إلى اللفظ « فإن بغت » تعدت « إحداهما على الأخرى فقاتلوا التي تبغي حتى تفيء » ترجع « إلى أمر الله » الحق « فإن فاءت فأصلحوا بينهما بالعدل » بالإنصاف « وأقسطوا » اعدلوا « إن الله يحب المقسطين » .
