the project, emergency protection support to vulnerable children has been designed looking at post earthquake child protection issues, linking emergency response and support. wvner has previously supported a total of 566 children drawn from 170 child headed families in the four operational districts. these households received npr 7500 for six cycles (6 months) and from the evaluation reports most of this money was spent on food and purchase of livelihood items. besides this programme the child protection--top up project implemented in the recovery phase assisted 500 vulnerable children from sindhupalchowk and gorkha. the selection of the beneficiaries was through a stringent process that was aligned with the guidelines from the child protection cluster and the relevant district government authorities that included gnn, women and children office (wco) and district administration office (dao). the assessments conducted by wvin revealed that the child headed households used most of the funds for schooling, health and also for food. following the discontinuation of the vulnerable family assistance (vfa) project some of the child headed households have found it difficult to meet their day to day needs which include purchasing education material, paying school fees, buying school uniforms, accessing health care, buying food and clothing.
