a rodrigues, les femmes jouent un rôle important dans l’économie de l’île. très actives, elles exercent souvent plusieurs métiers: elles s’occupent d’une famille nombreuse, cultivent avec énergie et courage des petits lopins de terres et élèvent du bétail. comme si cela n’était pas suffisant, certaines s’en vont encore en mer où elles pratiquent un métier bien difficile: piqueuse d’ourites (pêcheuse de poulpes). un métier de femme très respecté dans l’île, qui rapporte pourtant peu d’argent et qui est menacé en raison de l’appauvrissement du lagon.
