untuk kajian ini, lokasi tanah runtuh yang berjaya dikumpul untuk tujuan pengarkiban hanya daripada tahun 2009 hingga 2014 kerana insiden yang berlaku sebelum tahun 2009 hanya dapat dijejak melalui sumber tertiar. ukm belum pernah mengalami insiden banjir besar yang memberi impak kepada infrastruktur dan warga kampus.

selepas kajian yang terperinci dijalankan, didapati bahawa terdapat beberapa punca tersembunyi yang menyebabkan berlakunya banjir besar tersebut, antaranya ialah pembangunan pesat dalam sektor perumahan dan sektor industri yang akan menebang semua pokok di kawasan pembangunan. selain itu, longkang tersumbat juga boleh menjadi punca utama banjir. longkang tersumbat akan menghalang saliran daripada mengalir dengan lancar.
